Wednesday  25 February 2009     Deeping Rangers Reserves          1              Rothwell Corinthians Reserves            0

Rangers Reserves had a rare mid-week fixture against a very good footballing side. On this occasion the visitors were very quick to the ball and very well organised. The quick pace of the game was maintained through out, and both teams defended very well. In the first half Deeping had a penalty appeal turned down when Scott Cunningham appeared to be pushed over in the visitors penalty area but the refereee saw nothing untoward.

At half time Rangers brought on Dexter Stevens in place of James Stubbs and changed the formation with Dexter playing in mid-field. With 20 minutes remaining Matty Howitt flicked the ball on for Spencer Tinkler to head home to give the home side the lead. In the closing minutes Deeping had a second goal disallowed for offside.

Man of the Match sponsored by Neil Walmsley was Ben Stimpson.

Rangers Reserves continued their promotion push with this convincing win over an ill disiplined Long Buckby side. Goals from Oliver Gale and Justin Parr ensured that the scores were level at half time, but Rangers had created more chances than their visitors in the first half, and limited Long Buckby to just the 2 chances.

In the second half Long Buckby were reduced first of all to 10 men when one of their defenders rugby tackled a Rangers player to the ground when he was through on goal. They were later reduced to 9 men following a bizarre incident when another of their players swore at one of the referees assistants, and when the referee called the player over he head butted a Deeping player as he went past. Further goals from Justin Parr and Oliver Gale followed, and a solo effort from Lewis Leckie completed the scoring.

Potton Crushed in Outgang Rd Goal Fest.

Deeping left Potton without a single goal in over 4 games when they smashed the visitors 11 - 0 down at Outgang Rd. It was the inform Lewis Leckie who opened the scoring for Rangers with his 1st of 3, but it was James Stubbs who stole the show, bagging 5 in what player assistant manager Oldaker described as a "truly tremendous individual performance". Deeping managed to breakdown the unexpected early resistance from the away side just inside 10 minutes & when on 37 minutes a 14 pass, move of the match involving 7 players was delightful chested & volleyed home by Stubbs for his hat trick it effectively hammered the final nail in the Potton coffin even before the half time interval. Rangers determination & focus remained for the 2nd period, leaving Potton with only 1 thought "how many?". Second half goals from Cunningham (53), Porter (76), an own goal (70) & 2 more from Stubbs (47,56) gave Rangers the well earned 3 points & their biggest win of the season so far. Deeping manager Jarvis commented "Obviously it was a very pleasing result, but most importantly it was a fantastic team performance. We kept our discipline throughout the 90 minutes approaching the game at all times with a great attitude. Not just because he scored 5 goals but for an outstanding all round performance James Stubbs deserves special praise".

Rangers mediocre run of form continued for the 2nd week running away to Rothwell Corinthians. Deeping found it hard to adapt to the poor pitch conditions throughout, but still managed to restrict the home side to 2 half chances during the whole of the 1st half, one of which Phil Cox (30) scored to open Corinthians account. Deeping levelled the scores in the 37th minute, Leckie ferociously dispatching a spot kick from which the referee was given no choice but to award, when Leckie instantly controlled a long raking pass from Oldaker, he manoeuvred between the 2 central defenders to draw the foul. During the 2nd period Rothwell took full advantage of Deepings unusually fragile defence. Deepings back line were caught flat footed, when a long clearance from Wilson in the Rothwell goal set Simmonds (55) clear to lift the ball over the advancing Lownds who was left in 'No Mans Land'. Things got worse for Rangers 10 minutes later when a tame cross from the left was headed into the top corner of the net by Deepings skipper Parr. Deeping manager Jarvis went all or nothing bringing on raw pace in the form of Colley, Goodliffe & Colangelo, which paid off as Leckie grabbed his second with 10 minutes remaining & Jack Smith who starting his 1st senior game at this level bundled home the equalizer on the 85th minute to earn Deeping an important away point. Rangers coach Watts added "After a disappointing display last time out, we were hoping for an improved performance but the condition & pitch were awful so we had to be pleased to be leaving with a point".

Saturday 8th November. -UCL Reserve Division 2. - Deeping Rangers Reserves 1 (Stubbs  48 ) Rushden & Higham 2.(J Kew D Kew)

Rangers 2nd best to 2nd Bottom.

Things down at Outgang Rd never went the way of Home side, & certainly not to form. After the 3 - 3 draw away to Rusden & Higham 4 weeks ago, Deeping started the game in the fashion of a team wanting to put the record straight. With all the early pressure & goal scoring oppurtunities going the way of the league leaders, Rushden looked like a team out of their depth. Rangers almost took the lead with a quarter of the game gone, when Lewis Leckie was put through 1 on 1 with the advancing John Perry in the Rushden goal, only to see his lobbed effort spectacularly cleared of the line by Whitbread . This seemed to give the away side some impotence & when Lowndes a half cleared a Rushden corner, the ball dropped to the unmarked Kew to open the scoring with his 1st of the season. Deeping went in at the half time break 1 - 0  & regretting the missed chances. After a severe grilling during half time by manager Jarvis, Deeping immediately got themselves back in the fixture when an exquisite pass by Cornell at the end of a flowing 2 touch move found Stubbs, who rounded the Keeper for the equalizer with only 3 minutes gone in the 2nd half. Deeping reprieve lasted only a few minutes when a Cunningham pass was intercepted by Whitbread, who played a first time pass to find Clark out wide, who after dodging  the challenge from Parr was able to square the ball to his strike partner Kew to slot the ball into the bottom corner to what would eventually steal all 3 points. Even after some brave substitutions late on from Jarvis, Rangers still were unable to break down the stubborn Rushden defence. A disappointed Jarvis commented "To lose at home against weaker opposition isn't exceptable . It's certainly the low point of the season so far, I expect the right reaction next week. The boys have been told that performances like today will not be tolerated".

Rampant Rangers Net 8.

Lewis Leckie bagged 4 including a 4 minute hat trick either side of half time as Deeping run away winners 8 - 0 on the road at Potton United. Potton provided very little resistance as Rangers controlled the game from start to finish. Even by the time Stubbs opened the scoring on 5 minutes, Rangers really should've been 2 to the good. Deeping were far superior man for man especially across the midfield & when Cornell grabbed Rangers 2nd on 13 minutes, the result was all but decided, it was just a case of by how many. Ben Porter was a constant threat with his pace & quality in wide areas, & it was Cornell who benefited from a pin point cross. When the ball dropped on the edge of the 18 yard box at the feet of Cornell, he produced a swift turn & snap shot to add his 2nd & Deepings 3rd just over the half hour mark. Leckie (44) then latched onto a Cunningham pass & out raced the Pottons Colbrook to find the bottom corner to leave the home side feeling relieved to hear the half time whistle. Within a minute of the restart Leckie had completed his hat trick, a glancing header from another Porter cross (46) & a deflected shot from close in (48). Deepings number 10 then broke free & once he rounded Keeper Mark pallister he made no mistake by walking the ball home for his 4th of the day (65). Stubbs was replaced with 70 on the clock by under 18 Andrew Goodliffe who was unlucky not to put his name on the score sheet flashing just wide from 15 yards. Rangers only added 1 more during the final quarter of the match, Cunningham (76) finishing well & completing the scoring. Rangers coach Watts added "On a tricky pitch in tricky conditions it's a pleasing result & a great team effort, but I'd like to highlight the performance of Ben Porter, he was exceptional today".

Double top for Deeping!

Spirits were high down at Outgang Rd come full time on Saturday as both Deeping Rangers sides were top of their respective leagues for the 1st time in the clubs history. The reserves returned to the summit of UCL Reserve Division 2 with a convincing 5 - 0 thrashing over struggling Irchester. Rangers were able to coast through the 2nd half, having done the hard graft during a goal filled 1st half. Scott Verrall opened the scoring on 2 minutes lashing home the rebound, after his initial shot was saved well by Irchesters custodian Nathan McDonald. Deeping then went & added 3 more before half time Cunningham on 16 minutes, & 2 from Stimpson, an unstopable shot from 20 yards (16) & a fine header from a Verrall cross (39). Manager Jarvis took advantage of the half time score line by resting key players the excellent Stimpson being replaced by 16 year old George Colley. Colley showed why he is highly rated linking well with Stubbs, but it was Stubbs who got the only goal of the 2nd half (63), taking his season tally to 7 in only 8 games. A delighted Rangers manager Jarvis commented "I'm extremely happy with the result & particually the 1st half display in difficult conditions, we went about our business in a professional manner, If we keep up these standards & retain the correct commitment we shall go close this season".

A Damn Fine Display by Cornell

A fine display from Adam Cornell was the only real highlight from what was a scrappy game down at Latimer Park. Rangers got away to their usual quick start & should've taken the lead, when the normally reliable Stubbs rounded the Wanderers Keeper on 10 minutes only to hit his shot high & wide. It was then Man of the Match Cornell who nearly opened the scoring trying  his luck from a full 30 yards only to be foiled by a truly wonderful save from Liam Fox. With the scores level & the game fast approaching the midway point of the 1st half, the home side nearly caught Deeping off guard with their only chance of the match, Richards hitting a speculative shot from distance just past Lowndes left hand upright. Deeping finally got the goal they deserved 5 minutes before half time, Porter tapping in from close range. The 2nd half was much like the 1st Rangers completely on top, albeit a disjointed performance. Deeping were made to wait until the 70th minute to seal the victory when skipper Tinkler outwitted the Burton keeper bending a 20 yard free kick up & over the wall. Porter had an opportunity late on to improve the scoreline only to replicate Stubbs 1st half effort by missing an open goal. Player Assistant Manager Oldaker commented "Although a little disappointed with the performance, because of the dropped points last week the main objective was the 3 points"

Oh No.......Wayne-O!

What set out to be a positive start to the afternoon for Deepings' second string, ended very disappointingly. Rangers got away early generating the initial pressure, with both Porter & Howitt posing a major threat down either wing, & the centre midfield partnership of Gale & Cornell beginning to blossom. Deeping created the better chances & had the bulk of the possession, with the home side being limited to half chances as a result of personal defensive errors. The Lincolnshire side took a deserved lead in the 26th minute, when Ben Porter was able to lay the ball back to the supporting Verrell, who was able to pin point his 1st time cross & hit Stimpsom on the back post, who, when rising above the centre half nodded the ball back across the 6 yard box for Cunningham to easily head in for Deepings' 1st. Rangers then went & presented the hosts with an equalizer, Good movement from Rushden at a throw-in dragged both Deepings' centre halves out of position & Oldakers' failure to close the shot quickly enough left Lowndes exposed & he was only able to parry to the unmarked striker to tap home from close range. The reprieve lasted all but a minute when Deeping forced a corner directly from the restart. Porter drove in a near post corner where the advancing Cornell met the ball on the full, to volley past the gob smacked Keeper. Deepings inability to capitalise on the good opportunities they created, the score remained 2 - 1 to the visitors after the 1st 45. The 2nd period was much like the 1st, Deeping unable to finish, until Cunningham notched his 2nd on 53 minutes.  Stimpsom able to retrieve an over hit cross, turn & whip a cross to the rear post, where a miss hit shot from Howitt found Cunningham, who stabbed home to give Rangers a 2 goal advantage. Rushden were then given a life line when an excellent low cross wasn't dealt with, a complete mix up left Lowndes picking the scuffed shot from the bottom corner of his net. Things then turned extremely sour with 9 minutes remaining for the boys from Outgang Rd, When a seemly tame cross caught Oldaker in 2 minds, he then went & completely stunned his team mates, when attempting to clear the cross for a corner, volleyed past the unsuspecting Lowndes into the top corner to cost Rangers the much deserved points & leaving Oldaker pondering over a nightmare 45 minutes. Oldaker should've had the chance to redeem himself, & Deeping to take the victory & steal the points late on had it not been for an refereeing miss judgement, awarding a free kick instead of what was a stone cold penalty, Colley being pulled down 3 yards inside the R & H box. A disgruntled Deeping manager Jarvis added "Although we shared the points, it feels like we lost. Being 3 - 1 up away from home & not winning really hurts, although once again I can't ask anymore from my players in terms of effort & commitment".

Wednesday 1st October. - Ancaster Cup - 1st Round. - Deeping Rangers Reserves 2 (Stimpson  30, Leckie  52)   Ancaster 0.

Porter helps carry Deeping through to Round 2.

Deeping played host to local rivals Ancaster down at Outgang Rd, where both team were treated to perfect footballing conditions for an opening round tie of the Ancaster Cup. Deeping showed their strength in depth by fielding another extremely strong side even with regulars missing. Rangers set their stool out early on, playing what some people call 'Total Football', all that was missing was the end product to the superb wing play from Howitt & the Excellent Ben Porter. With the majority of the possession & the game being played deep in the Ancaster half, Deeping restricted the visitors to the odd breakaway, & 1 half chance which was tipped over the bar by the near spectator Lowndes. Deeping took the lead on the half hour when the ball was fed into the feet of Lewis leckie, & with a drop of his shoulder was able to get passed 2 defenders, to the byline & squeeze the cut back to his strike partner Stimpson, who with a death touch flashed the ball past the Ancaster keeper from an acute angle. Deeping came out for the second period looking to finish the job, but it wasn't until the 52nd minute when a Duncliffe corner was met by the head of Leckie that Rangers doubled their lead. Rangers failed to convert the chances that would've left Ancaster with no route back into the tie, the biggest culprit Oldaker hitting the bar from eight yards. As a result of miss opportunities the final score remained 2 - 0 to the home side. Deeping coach Martyn Watts commented at the final whistle "After creating a number of chances, we failed to convert all but 2 which was disappointing, but we are pleased with the win & progression to the next round".

Deeping HIT St. Ives for 5 !

A brace from James Stubbs helped Deeping stay in touching distance with UCL Reserves Division 2 league leaders A.F.C Kempston. Rangers dominated throughout with only the woodwork denying them an early lead, Justin Parr rattling the cross bar with only 2 minutes gone. Playing with pace, the home side continued to create great chances & eventually got their noses in front, a sweeping move colminating with an unstoppable volley from Adam Cornell on 23 minutes. This allowed Rangers to stroke the ball about the park, keeping possession & frustrating the visitors. Now with the thoughts of damage limitations at the forefront of their minds, St. Ives went & conceded the killer blow, Stubbs tapping in from 3 yards, 6 minutes before the half time interval. With the game all but won, Jarvis took the oppurtunity to introduce ex-scunthorpe youth team player Ben Porter to the mid-field & with immediate impact, he had a hand in both Rangers next 2 goals, Leckie finishing well on 62 & Stubbs a minute later. The only blemish on Deepings' record, a consulation for Town with 11 minutes to go, this quickly became a distant memory when Rangers skipper Tinkler rubbed salt in the wound, when from 25 yards whipped his free kick up & over the wall to make it 5 with only injury time remaining. Afterwards Rangers manager Jarvis added " I felt we played some very good football in stages, However, although we scored 5, we could've & should've scored more, that aside I'm pleased with the result".

Deepings' dreadful 1st half display cost them the chance to go second in the UCL reserve division 2. Both goals from Stars' Striker Dave Kilby (13), (40) sent Rangers in for the half time break 2 - 0 down. After a stern talking to from Jarvis & a change of formation, Deeping returned for the 2nd period a much better team, reducing the deficit as early as the 47th minute, Leckie finding the the top corner from distance. Rangers continued to pile on the pressure right up until the final whistle, only great saves from Chris Bewton denying Deeping a share of the points. A Disappointed Jarvis added "I'm extremely disappointed with the first half performance, however after a severe inquisition at half time, I was pleased with our second half performance and feel we were unlucky not to come away with a point".

Deeping seal victory with Cunning substitution.

Deeping squeezed into round 2 of the league cup with a 2nd win in a week against O.N. Chenecks. Outgang Rd boss Jarvis took the opportunity to rest key players, but was forced to make an early change, swapping the inform Stubbs for the injured Stimpson on 20 minutes. Rangers took the lead shortly after when Stubbs made it 5 goals in 4 games sliding home a low Mark Kingston cross. A lapse in concentration allowed Chenecks forward Mckenzie to seek in and grab the equalizer for the away side 4 minutes from half time. In a pretty uneventful 2nd period it was Rangers that sealed the victory when Jarvis added Cunningham to the fray for his 1st action of the season, who tapped in from close range. At the final whistle Player-Assistant manager Wayne Oldaker commented "With a number of key players missing it's great to see that we have tremendous strength in depth, with the likes of Justin Parr coming in, who I might like to add was brilliant tonight"

Deep-IN Injury Time!

Rangers never say die attitude snatched all 3 points for manager Darren Jarvis at Outgang Rd deep into injury time. Deeping were quick into their stride pinning the visitors firmly in their half, with early opportunities falling to both Stimsom & Stubbs. It was Stubbs who broke the deadlock when he got on the end of Oldakers' 55 yard inch perfect pass to loop his header over the stranded Chenecks keeper. It was Deeping who continued to play the more progressive football, when failing to convert good chances, this came back to haunt the home side just before the half time interval when a poor head home from Goodger left Deeping keeper Lowndes stranded with the ball looping over his head into the empty net. The second period had more of a cup tie feel, it was end to end with both sides going for the win. Lowndes kept his side in the game with a terrific save when another shocking backpass left him short. Approaching the last 10 minutes it looked as though the points would be shared, until O.N Chenecks took the lead on the 83rd minute. Deeping made a quick response when 2nd half substitute Steven Colangelo received a long clearance to bustle his way through 3 O.N Chenecks defenders to fire low into the bottom corner. With moments remaining & the referee checking his watch, man of the match Daniel Flood charged up the left & found Colangelo who after working his way into the visitors box slipped in Andrew Goodliffe who managed to find the unmarked Stubbs to score his 2nd & Rangers 3rd to take the points. Jarvis added "After starting really well they began to frustrate us, and although we left it extremely late, the right team won. We certainly played the better football & created more chances"

 2 Errors Cost Rangers.

Rangers tasted defeat for the 1st time this season when they went down 2-1 at home to AFC Kempston. The home side were caught cold, lucky not to concede twice inside the opening 5 minutes. Once settled, Deeping began to get a grip of the game producing the better football, Verrells' left boot narrowly hitting over & a flying Stimson header pulling a reaction save from the away sides keeper. Against the run of play, Deeping then went & made two defensive errors, keeper Jamie Lowndes failed to gather a miss hit shot & Rangers inability to clear their lines minutes before the break allowed Kempston reach the interval 2-0 up. Rangers continued to pile on the pressure in the second period restricting Kempston to play counter attacking football. A cross-shot from Oldaker almost deceived the keeper who was able to tip the effort onto the bar & out for a corner. The resulting corner saw Stubbs latch onto the near post delivery to head past the stranded Kempston keeper. Rangers hope of avoiding defeat was weakened when the referee reduced the home side to 10 men, Stimson receiving his second yellow. Valiant defending within the final 10 minutes saw AFC Kempton leave Outgang Rd with all 3 points. Deepings coach Martyn Watts added "After a poor start & some bad individual errors, I pleased with the character we showed & feel hard done by with the final result"

DEEPING COMFORTABLE WITH FLOOD DEFENCE

A second away game of the season meant a trip to Weston Park as Darren Jarvis's Deeping side continued to set the early pace in the UCL Reserve Division 2. Rangers never got out of second gear as they proceeded to put Wootton Blue Cross to the sword in a clinical fashion. The home side were never in the game as both the excellent Daniel Flood and centre half partner Tinkler were Titans in defence, and nullified any forward threat, reducing the home side to one long range effort all match, which was smartly saved by debutante Mark Griffiths. Mark was a last minute replacement as both Reserve goalkeepers were unavailable. Matt Howitt gave Rangers the lead inside 10 minutes when he deflected a wayward Verrell shot into the Blue Cross goal and Stubbs added the second. Rangers Reserves Manager Darren Jarvis said after the game “Two games in, two away victories, a really pleasing start. With four home fixtures in September we’ve got a great foundation to build on.”

Saturday 26th July 2008 - Kings Cliffe 1 Deeping Rangers Reserves 3

Jarvos' juniors will be the Future!

Deeping Rangers reserves made it a hattrick of victories when they travelled to Kings Cliffe to beat the Peterborough & District outfit 3 - 1. Jarvis made a number of changes by bringing in a hand full of under 18's to continue his reconstruction of Rangers 2nd string. The games early stages were pretty even, mainly due to Deeping getting used to a trial formation of 3-4-1-2. Once the away side settled into their new formation they began to take the game by the scuff of it's neck, with Deeping' front 3 of Stubbs, Leckie & youth team player George Colley causing problems for the home side's defence, it was Deeping who took the lead when a defensive mix up by Kings Cliffe enabled Leckie to nip in between centre half & goal keeper to calmly round the keeper and pass into an empty net. This seemed to wake the home side who had it not been for a quality save from Lowndes in the Rangers goal the scores would've been level. The balance of play again swung back to the UCL side when persistent wing play by Cunningham found Stubbs who's quick touch left the Kings Cliffe player making a rash challenge and the referee no other option but to award a penalty. Deeping went in at half time 2 - 0 to the good when Leckie scored from the rebound after his poor penalty could only be parried by the unfortunate keeper. Changes from Jarvis for the 2nd period did not alter the style & balance of play, Deeping only being troubled 12 minutes from time when an unusual lack of concentration by the otherwise excellent Adam Goodger lost possession on the edge of his own box resulting in an easy tap in for the Kings Cliffe forward. This turned out to be a consolation for the hosts as 5 minutes from time Deeping sealed the victory when a perfect slide rule pass by Alex Knight put debutant Andy Goodliffe in to score his 1st senior goal. The very satisfied Deeping manager Jarvis added,  "We've had a great pre-season so far, with 3 victories from 3.  However it's early days, I'm just pleased with the effort and commitment shown by my players and also from my management team of Wayne Oldaker and Martin Watts".

Saturday 19 July 2008-  Deeping Rangers Res    4       Holbeach United Res    2

Darren Jarvis made the best possible start to his reign as Deeping Rangers reserve manager following up his midweek victory against Deeping's under 18's with an impressive 4 - 2 away victory at Holbeach Town. Deeping made a great start playing some attractive quick passing football, which was rewarded early on when a sweeping move was exquisitely finished off when debutant 17 year old Neil Walker crashed the ball home from a full 25 yard just inside the first 10 minutes. Deeping continued to make progress when a rapid move involving Butler and Cunningham down the left hand side fond the bursting run of Spencer Tinkler only to be up ended deep inside the home sides penalty box leaving the referee no choice but to award the penalty kick. Tinkler regained his feet to take the resulting spot kick only to be foiled by the Holbeach keeper who easily pushed the shot wide for a corner. This seemed to rejuvenate the Peterborough & District league side who almost immediately created their first real half chance, resulting in a complete mix up in the centre of Rangers defence saw the ball break to the Holbeach striker who was able to slide the ball home past the advancing Deeping's custodian Jamie Lowndes to draw level. With the half hour fast approaching Jarvis made Deeping's 1st & 2nd substitutions replacing Ryan with under 18 Adam Cornell for his first senior start, slipping him in along side Tinkler in the centre of midfield and the excellent Walker switching to right back, also changing Asher for Ray like for like in the heart of the back four. The changes seemed to get Rangers back on track going in at half time the better side.

Deeping returned to the field of play with an enforced change Lowndes declaring himself unfit to continue, Tinkler drawing the short straw to become the last line of defence with Oldaker going into midfield. The second half began with Deeping playing some positive football, looking to build from the back with both fullbacks Walker & Butler enjoying a lot of possession. The first real chance of the second period fell to Deeping Matt Howitt who after some great wing play was unable to find the hard working Stimson in front of goal. Holbeach now resulting to hitting long balls were caught sleeping with Cornell exploiting the space left by the anticipation of the long throw returned the throw to Oldaker, after invading the tackle he found Stimson whose quick feet caused complete confusion, enticing the foul to win Deeping their second penalty of the game. Unfortunately the Holbeach stopper was unable to create a re-run of the first half, Oldaker tucking the ball wide of his out stretched arm to regain Deeping their well-deserved lead.

With both Jarvis and Rangers coach Watts calling for composure, Deeping went and pushed the panic button when a brief lapse in concentration saw a tame cross crawl to the back post to be stabbed home by the waiting Holbeach winger.

At 2-2 and with a little over 7 minutes remaining Deeping throw Steven Colangelo back on with the intension of stealing the win, it was Colangelo who rescued a poor clearance and battled his way down the right, brushing off a last ditched tackle from Holbeach's left back to squeeze the cut back to Cornell who with the calls of shoot from team mates decided to calmly thread the pass to Stubbs who finished from 8 yards. This left United gambling in numbers and leaving holes, which allowed rangers to put the tie to bed when a pin point Oldaker corner was met by Cornell who volleyed home to secure the well-deserved 4-2 win.
