THE LEAGUE

Deeping Rangers first team play in the Premier Division of the Eagle Bitter United Counties League.

AprilAfter the midweek matches on the 31st March when Deeping didn’t play, a Newport Pagnell draw saw them take top spot on goal difference and look like favourites as S&L lost. The first Saturday in April took Deeping to S&L Corby where they came from behind 3 times to get a 3-3 draw.  On he second Saturday Deeping completed the double over St Ives with a 3-1 win to return to top spot then on Easter Monday they could only draw at Holbeach  and so dropped to second behind Newport Pagnell. Deepings final game was a 2-2 draw at Potton and with the other contenders catching up on games played Deeping finish in fourth place.

March – There are 7 teams in the race for the championship and the heat is now on! On the first Saturday, Deeping moved back to the top of the table with a 3-1 win at Northampton Spencer, whilst current champions Stotfold lost to  S&L Corby,   And in the week S&L Corby win at home. The second Saturday brought Northampton Spencer to Outgang Road and produced a 2-0 win for the Rangers. And S&L Corby lost 0-1 at Boston. Then S&L came to Deeping on St Patricks Day and won 2-0. On the third Saturday Deeping won 3-0 at St Ives just about killing off St Ives chances of taking the championship. S&L had a league cup match but the other contenders all won. Then S&L, Stotfold and Newport Pagnell all won in the week. And so to the final Saturday and Deeping win 6-1 at home to struggling Potton but S&L improved their claim by beating Stotfold and the others in the chasing pack all won too. So Deeping remain top but realistically  with those games in hand  S&L Corby or Newport Pagnell  Town  are the likely new champions with Deeping playing for third place against  Boston Town , Daventry Town, Stotfold  and St Ives.

February – Bad weather meant that Deeping went 2 Saturdays without a game and saw them losing top spot to last years champions Stotfold. Then Deeping travelled to Newport Pagnell and the game remained goalless until the home team scored in the 89th minute, only for Lee Ellison to equalise in the fourth minute of stoppage time. The last day of February then produced a big result for Deeping with a 2-1 home win over Stotfold to remain 1 point behind them

January – January brought mixed fortunes.  The first game of 2009 was away to current champions Stotfold and Deeping lost 1-2. So  Deeping had lost 3 in a row (including a cup tie), when they travelled to Long Buckby – and they came away with a 3-2 win. This was followed by a 1-2 loss at St Neots and finally a 4-1 home win over Cogenhoe.  Deeping end January only 1 point ahead of a chasing pack of 5 teams all with a better pts/game ratio

December – Deeping got back to winning ways with 3 victories - 2-1 at home over Wellingborough, 3-0 at neighbours Blackstones and 4-1 at home to St Neots.  The final game of the year saw the return tie with Blackstones who won 3-1 at Outgang Road

November – the month commenced with a 6-1 home win against Desborough followed by a 1-0 win at Wellingborough. The month then saw a poor run of results, 2 against other title challengers - first a home tie against Newport Pagnell – on a run of 11 games without defeat – who take all 3 points, defeating Deeping 1-3. The last game of the month takes Deeping to Daventry – who had won their last 2 games against Deeping and where an exciting game is lost 3-4. Between these two defeats was a disappointing 1-1 home draw with Sleaford.  The lead is now just 3 points with Daventry, Newport Pagnell and S&L Corby all having games in hand.

October – the month commenced 3 home ties - firstly a 1-0 win over neighbours Holbeach and a 1-1  draw against second placed Long Buckby and then  Deeping put 5 passed Rothwell for the second time this season. The next game was at neighbours Yaxley and produced a 3-1 win to make up for the disappointing home draw back in August. The unbeaten run was then extended to 10 matches with a 2-0 home win over Raunds.  The next game brought the run to an end with a 0-1 loss at Cogenhoe and in the 7th and final game of October Deeping were held to a surprise 1-1 home draw by Bourne.  Deeping took 14 out of 21 points in the month and still remain top with an 8pt advantage. However second placed S&L Corby have 5 games in hand!

September – The month started with losses in 3 cup competitions, then Deeping bounced back by beating Boston Town twice scoring 5 (with Ashley Stevens getting 4) at Outgang Rd and 3  Boston.  A 1-0 win at Desborough was sandwiched between the Boston games. The scoring spree continued with Ryan Semple scoring 5 goals at Sleaford and adding another 2 in a 3-2 win at Potton to make the months points tally 13 out of a possible 15 and to take Deeping to the TOP OF THE TABLE. And Ryan Semple won “goal scorer of the month”

August - Deeping started the 2008/9 season well with 7pts from 3 games – a 5-0 win at new boys Rothwell, a 0-0 draw at Yaxley and a 3-0 win over neighbours Bourne in their first home match of the season. The fourth and final league game of August was a 2-5 home defeat by newly promoted Daventry Town who also beat them at the end of last season to lift the League Cup

In 2007/8  Deeping finished 7th after a mixture of excellent and disappointing results.

In 2006/7 under new manager Tuncay Korkmaz, they were league champions and went 29 league games before suffering their first defeat.
