Crowland
at Home
Result
3-2
A
beautiful warm sunny morning greeted the start of the season. Unfortunately I
think the sun got to our heads early on and we conceded and early goal. We
battled on and quickly got an equaliser from Sebbie. Crowland are a well
organised team and went back into the lead. Again, our fighting spirit shone
through and we got another goal from Scott to make it 2-2. From then on it was
a tight game with few chances at each end. We finally managed to break the dead
lock with a cross in from Sebbie and with Scott having his extra long studs on,
managing to stretch and touch the ball home.
A
good, close game that could have gone either way. I will look forward to our
next encounter with Crowland. A great game to start the season.
We
enjoyed another close friendly after, winning by 1 goal to nil. (Own Goal)

Away
Result
0-2
A
foggy start, where had the sun gone was the cry? To this our second game of the
season. It would be fair to say that we took control early on and Ryan, our
keeper, was not called on very often in the first half. 2 goals from Sebbie,
and five attempts from most of the rest of the team that hit the woodwork
(although I think they may have been metal) and several attempts just wide,
made for an exciting first half. The passing and mature approach by all the
players brought many comments from the watching parents, when they had stopped
smiling at their sons performances. The few times Ryan (GK) was called into
action he coped well. Glinton never gave up and kept battling to the end.
The
friendly afterwards was much of the same, however this time we kept hitting the
target. Nicholas started the scoring with a well placed shot, closely followed by
Joshua, Ryan (2), and own goal and one from Sebbie to finish with. Again the
passing/movement and team work by all the players we excellent. Every
contributed to the game.
A
new warm up procedure was implemented by Alex and his dad to this game, it involved
Alex's dad jogging and Alex riding his bike the 3 miles to Glinton !!!!!! this
did not affect Alex's performance as several strong challenges were made.
Although the bike ride home may have been a bit slower.
Well
done to the lads, 2 wins out of 2. But more importantly another excellent
performance and lots of team work

Wittering
Home
Result
1-0
With
autumn now closing in, the weather was a mixture of sun, cloud and rain through
out this closely fought game. We had
previously played Wittering at the Peterborough embankment and come away
comfortable winners on both occasions.
Unfortunately, the lads thought this was going to be more of the same
and were very complacent in the first half. The passing and movement that had
been impressive in the previous two games was not always on show. Wittering had
a chance to score early from the penalty spot, but the ball was placed wide.
The lads then started to put a few passes together and Joshua hit a shot from
the edge of the box that the Wittering keeper did not hold and the ball went
over the line. At half time, talk of the two easy wins was forgotten and we all
agreed that they had improved, and we needed to work harder. During the second
half we had 4-5 good chances to increase the lead, but with good goalkeeping
and not so accurate shooting it was not to be. With virtually the last kick of
the game, Wittering put in a cross from a free kick; Ryan quickly came out of
his goal and kicked the ball into touch to clear the danger. As the final
whistle blew, a sigh of relief came from the Deeping touchline, and a cheer
from one of the Wittering parents was heard as they had only lost by one goal,
unlike their previous 2 games.
A
big lesson was learnt today by the team; do not underestimate your opposition.
This
makes it 3 wins out of 3, and this has put us top of the league, after
Northborough lost 2 nil. Our next game is away to Northborough.

No
league game, so a friendly was played at Yaxley.
This
game allowed Karl to relive his child hood watching his Dad play cricket for
Yaxley before starting to play for them from age 11.
Anyway,
back to Football, a slow start to the first game saw us go 3 behind very
quickly, after a shuffle round of positions the rest of the game proved to be a
lot closer, Scott pulled one back for the team. When the final whistle came we
finished losing 4-1. Another game followed and this time the lads proved to be
on the ball from the start. Lots of excellent passing and movement, Scott
scored 3 in this game and a shot from the halfway line by Nicholas skidded into
the corner of the net. Some fantastic defending, clearing headers helped keep
control of the game. A cross into the box by Scott led to William poking the
ball home with the final kick of the game.
Nicholas
won the man of the match trophy.

No
league game. 2 friendlies today, one against Bourne and another against the
Deeping Blues.
Bourne
was the first opponents – control of the game started straight away and soon
Scott hit a low drive with his left foot inside the right hand post to put us
one up. Bourne fought back with a goal before half time when we were caught
defending too high up the pitch. Sebbie came off the bench to score 3 goals to
complete a 4-1 win. Again excellent performances from the lads, Jacob and
Alex’s awareness and vision at the back kept Bourne’s goal attempts few and far
between. William was strong with his tackles. The squad’s positional and
tactical sense is improving each game.
Bourne
played the Deeping Blues and lost 9 nil
We
then played against the Blues, this was close we had chances to score in the
first half but did not put the ball away, one chance by the blues was put wide.
Nil-Nil at half time. We went one down in the half, however this did not stop
us from having 5-6 good chances to score, Sebbie could have had a hat trick if
it were not for Joseph pulling off some fine saves in goal. Tiredness started to
set in from the hard work of the day, and we went 3 nil down right at the
death. Again the performance was good and progress was made. All the players
are now organised at corners and are aware of who should be taking throw-ins.
Sebbie
won the man of the match trophy

Away
Result
2-4
It
is not only British Rail that has had problems with fallen leaves. The pitch at
Ryhall school had to be swept clear of leaves, so one side line could be seen.
Apart from the leaves and a big slope from one side to the other, the pitch was
perfect, a bit wet so the ball moved easily. Both teams had possession early on
and Blackstones had an early chance when the ball was passed into the box, Ryan
in goal was quick to react and kicked the ball clear and got a kick himself for
his bravery. The first change of the game saw Josh come on when we had a corner
to replace Jacob who had kept things tight at the back, Josh stayed back to
defend, the corner was cleared towards Josh, who, still on the halfway line,
Side footed the ball towards the goal with his first touch of the ball, the wet
pitch played it’s part and the ball skidded through the keeper to put us one
up. A few minutes later some good work by Sebbie gave him the space to play the
ball to Scott who ran on and scored to put us 2 up at half time. Nicholas was
fouled on the left of the box, a thunderous shot was expertly tipped onto the
bar by the Blackstones keeper who was in fine form. Good solid defending and
team work had made the difference. Blackstones came out quickly in the second
half and we were made to work even harder to stop them. However they managed to
get 2 goals quickly after some indecision at the back. Ryan was again called
into action, coming out quickly and he made himself big to block a shot. This
did not deter the lads and again we started to take control. Deeping pressure
led to an own goal, 2-3 up. Alex and William were working hard when Blackstones
had the ball to deny them any room. Sebbie managed to work some room and put in
another goal. 2-4 up. The final whistle came.
Well
done to the lads, Ryan had performed brilliantly at training on Wednesday and
he brought that form into the game today with some excellent instructions being
shouted out to the players in front of him. Strong defending and team play by
the rest of the lads brought us through.
I consider this to be the best team performance so far this season; we
are getting better each game.
A
friendly game followed, Six a side, we played three up front for this and the
lads coped very well with the extra player and maintained their positions
throughout. Blackstones went 1 up. Again players were swapped round during the
friendly and again at half time to give everyone experience of different
positions. A long pass forward from Jacob was just kept in by Nicholas who
turned and passed the ball to Ryan at the edge of the box who hit a first time
shot in to the net. The game finished 1-1. Again lots of good passing and
movement.
The
man of the match was - Ryan

League
game - Bourne Blues at home
Today’s
game saw Bourne Blues return to Outgang Road after visiting us 2 weeks ago for
a friendly. 7 players were available today with Alex not being well. I think it
is fair to say we took control from the kick off and kept most of the
possession. After an enforced substitution due to an injury to Scott, Sebbie
ran through after some good passing and slotted the ball home. William doubled
the lead with some determined play, 2-0 at half time. Ryan was briefly called
upon to clear a Bourne through ball and take some goal kicks. Jacob, Nicholas
and Josh kept things solid at the back as well as going forward to support the
two front players at every opportunity. This lead to some superb passing and
movement by all players, providing 1 goal for William and another to Sebbie.
Final score 4-0 to Deeping. Scott did not have a good afternoon after receiving
his earlier injury, a very painful blow to the eye with the Ball forced another
change.
The
friendly followed the same pattern, Scott had now recovered from his injuries
and bravely went in Goal. The passing
continued to flow with Nicholas setting up Jacob for a couple of chances that
were put just wide. Nicholas started
the scoring, Josh supplied William with another Goal and Sebbie put another
away as well, Josh got a well deserved goal, he had worked hard in both games
and provided some good passes and tough tackles. Bourne kept going to the end,
but again, Scott in goal did not have too much to do and was beginning to feel
the cold.
This
was probably the best performance of the season, everyone played well,
organised themselves, passing movement and commitment to stopping Bourne from
playing was first class.
The
man of the match trophy was won by William.

League Game –
Spalding Away.
This was an eagerly
awaited top of the table clash, Spalding had won 6 out of 6 and we had won 5
out of 5. The early pressure was by
Spalding who played three up front. Nicholas and Josh had to work hard at the
back with William and Scott tracking back to help when ever it was needed. We
started to get more of the ball and hit them on the break a couple of times.
Our passing game started to come through and a neat move down the left by Scott
finished with a pass to William who still had players in front of him to beat,
drove into the box and shot into the roof of the net. Ryan was called into
action a couple of times in the half to gather balls passed into the box, he
received another kick on the ankle for his bravery. The start of the second
half saw Spalding come at us very hard. With some of their players left
unmarked we soon found ourselves 2-1 down, the second goal was nearly kept out
by Nicholas and Ryan. The referee deemed a ball by Scott to be a back pass, (no
way ref came the response from the Spalding Parents) and gave a free kick on
the edge of the box. All four outfield players formed a wall. The shot was
heading for the top left corner when Ryan dived and jumped so high, managing to
get both hands on the ball to push it wide. Everyone watching applauded the
save of the season, so far. We continued to play our flowing football and this
started to create chances. Josh also had a free kick blocked. A pass from
Spalding was intercepted by Josh who pushed into the edge of the box, his shot
hit the post and rebounded quickly to Scott who unluckily put the ball wide.
The final whistle went. All good things come to an end. A draw may have been a
fairer result, but everyone can still be pleased with how well they played. We
kept passing and playing good football all the way through the game, even when
we went behind. Playing good football will always be the philosophy of the
team.

League Game –
Crowland away.
This was the first
return fixture of the season. We had a cracking first game, narrowly winning
3-2. Winter hit hard today, a strong wind coupled with freezing temperatures
made the conditions very hard. A de-frosting and sticky pitch made things
difficult for both sides. We had the wind behind us in the first half and the
possession was with us, although Crowland had a couple of chances to score,
Ryan had this covered. Swapping the players round was in order as the cold
started to bite. Scott was on the left, and after a good run, slipped the ball
to Sebbie who rounded their defender and slotted the ball home. A well deserved
goal. Half time came and the change of ends put the cold wind in our faces. We
still had a lot of the ball, however chances at goal were few. With the wind
behind them, Crowland broke through 4-5 times. Ryan has been on top form in
recent weeks and he continued in this game, stopping Crowland on these 1 on 1
situations. We managed to hang on to the win.
A six a side friendly
followed and brought more of the same good football from both sides and
possession was more evenly split. We found ourselves 2-1 down with a few
minutes to go, a good run at goal from William led to him passing to Alex in
the box, who put the ball away for his first goal of the season.
I was very proud of
all of the players in how the coped with the cold and wind, 2 or 3 were really
suffering but continued to put the effort in. Well done to everyone, including
the parents on the side line.
The man of the match
trophy was won by Ryan.

League Game – Glinton
at home.
Unlike last weeks
game, the sun was shining and the temperature was at least 5 times higher at 6
degrees C. We started well with strong play from all of the starting line up of
Ryan in goal, Alex, Josh, William and Sebbie. However for all of our control,
we did not have a meaningful shot. Sebbie, out wide on the left, had a shot at
goal and this went through the keepers hands to put us one up. Halftime came, a
strong chat with the players did the trick. And everyone came out of the blocks
quickly, Sebbie put us 2 up. Then one of the goals of the season. Scott had the
ball, a pass to Sebbie on the left. Scott saw space in front of him and ran
forward calling for the ball back, Sebbie heard this passed back, Scott
continued his run and put the ball away. Sebbie put us 4 up to complete his hat
trick. Glinton kept going and were rewarded with a goal in the last minute. A
shot came in from the left, Ryan dived to push the ball wide, but a Glinton
player was there to tap the ball into the net. A good game by all of the
players. Well Done.
We played a friendly
afterwards and won 4 nil with 2 goals from Nicholas and Jacob.
The man of the match
trophy was won by Alex.

League Game –
Northborough away
Summer felt along
time ago in this game. Rain and Wind had made the pitch very heavy. The
temperature was pretty low as well. After an intense warm up, we started the
game in our rain jackets in an attempt to keep dry. An even start to the game was broken by a good run down the left
by Scott who hit a great cross in for William, who had held position in the
middle, to put away. Another break by Scott, this time from the left into the
box, a right foot shot put us 2 nil up. Ryan in goal was keeping himself warm
with plenty of star jumps. Half time came and went, Still raining. Changes
made. This half was more even with chances at both ends. Some of the best
passing and movement by William and Josh was creating openings. A half chance
shot by Northborough went in, I think Ryan was frozen to the spot in the wind
and rain. In the last minute William doubled his goal tally for the match with
a great move round a defender followed by a sweetly hit shot. Final score 1-3
to Deeping. This game has now put on the same points as Spalding who are top.
Due to the weather no
friendly.
The Man of the match
trophy was won by Scott.

League Game –
Blackstones at home
Finally we managed to
get a game in after 49 days. Sunny weather had returned from the rain that
forced us to call games off for the previous 2 weeks.
The game started with
Blackstones kicking off and within 10 seconds we were 1 nil down, we did not
pick up a player on the right who sneaked into the box and while we were ball
watching he found space to get a pass and score.
This really shook us
up and we then realised there was a game to play. The passing and marking
returned and within 3-4 minutes we were in front, thanks to 2 quick goals from
Sebbie. Our normal game had returned. Half time 2-1 up.
Blackstones started
strongly and were forcing us back to our goal. A goal from Blackstones evened
things up. Another goal from Sebbie put us in the lead again; however more
pressure from Blackstones and a slip in concentration from us gave 2 goals
away. Final whistle came. 3-4 was the score to Blackstones.
This game showed that
we had not played a competitive match for 49 days, we were out of practice and
not quite up to match speed at the start. However when we started playing well,
the usual confidence and ability came through. Ryan was talking well in goal
and Josh and Nicholas, after the first goal, looked good at the back. Sebbie,
William and Scott looked good up front.
We did start a
friendly game and got into the second half with the score at nil nil. However
the game had to be abandoned. This is now in the hands of the Peterborough
Junior Alliance.
Thanks to all of the
Deeping players and parents for their support during and after this game. I was
really proud as to how well all of the players handled the game and the issues
surrounding it.

League Game -
Wittering Away
A chilly start to
this game, Wittering have improved again since our first encounter at the
Peterborough Embankment. This time we knew not to underestimate them and took
control early on. Some good play by Josh, winning the ball in the box and then
passing to Scott, who hit a shot into the top left corner of the net. A scrappy
goal was scored by Wittering, a couple of lucky rebounds and then a tap in made
it 1-1. Scott put away another to make it 1-2 to us.
Nicholas was fouled
on the right hand side of the box. Scott and his left foot was required to take
it and he promptly smacked the ball into the net, again in the top left corner.
Another commanding performance from the clarets.
A six a side friendly
was played and the formation of 2-2-1 was kept for the whole game, all players
kept looking round to see who they should be marking and when we had the ball
the running and passing was first class. A nice move saw Alex in the right
place and the right time to hit the ball home, (with his left foot) into the
net.
The Man of the match

League Game – Bourne
away
An even colder start
to this game, a slowly defrosting pitch made play difficult for both sides and
the ground was lumpy and hard in places, which led to the ball bouncing around
unpredictably. We kicked off and for the next 3-4 minutes we had throw in after
throw in and corners, without making our domination count. The only chance
Bourne had, was when we were caught ball watching and too far up field, however
the speed of our players saved the day and tackles were made (eventually).
In goal, Ryan, did
not have too much to do, however, he kept on directing the play in his usual
confident manner.
The second half
continued the same as the first, we have the most of the possession, however,
Bourne were still dangerous on the break. Josh was fouled just outside the box,
he bravely got up and took the kick himself. The shot was on target, fortune
was in our favour and the ball bounced passed two outfield players and the
keeper to go in the goal.
We kept playing and
were close to getting some more goals. We learnt today that unless you score
the domination of the game is not enough.
During the game there
were some fantastic corners by William and Josh, which we were close to
converting.
The friendly was six
a side, 3 nil was the score, some good displays by all the lads, the passing
was again superb from Josh and Jacob which set up Scott for a goal. 1-3 to
Deeping was the eventual score.

League game –
Spalding at home
Wow, what an
important game for both teams, if Spalding win or draw, they win the league. So
it was a must win game for Deeping. Every player during the warm up was the
most focused and determined I have seen them all season.
I was worried that
nerves might get the better of them, but how wrong was I. From the start of the
game each player was 100% on the ball from the start. With this weeks pitch
being a lot flatter than last weeks, we managed to get the ball moving well and
our passing was spot on. Ryan in our goal did not have much to do in the first
half apart from clear a couple of through balls, he was very brave and dived at
the feet of the oncoming Spalding forwards, defensively we completely blocked
any Spalding attack, Josh and Nicholas were quick to the ball and strong
tackling broke down the attacks before any shots could be got away. Up front we
looked dangerous with William’s and Scott’s movement and control being superb.
Scott got the first goal with some nice movement and control. A change in
players did not affect the style of play. Half time came and went and we stayed
1 up, Spalding managed their only shot on goal at the start of the second half,
luckily the ball hit the post and rebounded to our player to clear. Half way
into the second half, Sebbie gathered the ball up and a strong quick run opened
up the Spalding defence and goal !!, 2 nil gave us some breathing space. A goal
2 minutes from time for Sebbie made the game safe. Spalding are a very good
team and to restrict them to only one shot was an unbelievable performance.
Well done to the lads
A six a side friendly
followed a couple of goals were scored by Spalding in the first half, however,
we got back into the game well and the new formation of 5 outfield players is
starting the go well. Most of the players were playing out of their usual
position, however we coped well. 3 goals were scored by Deeping, Sebbie,
William and josh.
The man of the match
was – Nicholas.

League Game –
Northborough at Home
This is the last
league game of the season. The lads did not need any motivation, win the game
and win the league.
The very sunny but
windy weather was trying it’s best to spoil the game; however we were not to be
put off. With the wind in our faces the game commenced. 2 very early goals by
Sebbie was perfect at calming the nerves of manager, players and spectators of
the Claret’s. for the first, Sebbie picked the ball and used his pace to get
round the defenders and goal keeper to walk the ball into the net. The second was
a minute later, very similar to the first; Sebbie’s pace created space for him
to slot the ball home passed the keeper. Northborough did not know what had hit
them. At the back we looked solid, with Ryan calling out to Alex and Josh to
mark. Northborough broke through into the box, Josh came flying in and made the
tackle of the match, clearing the ball from the toes of the Northborough
forward just as he was about to shoot. Jacob received a pass from Sebbie and
broke into the box and hit a great shot, low passed the keeper. 3-0.
Northborough kept going and put a lot of pressure on the team, and were
rewarded with a goal just before half time. The second half was a tighter game
with fewer chances than in the first half. Nicholas, William and Scott were brought
on, and kept up the flowing passing football. Scott was on hand to add a fourth
goal to seal the win.
THIS RESULT MEANS
THAT IN OUR FIRST SEASON WE HAVE BECOME LEAGUE WINNERS !!!!!!
Every player has made
massive improvements in their game from the first game to the last. All the
hard work has been worth it and I am immensely proud of all the lads. WELL
DONE.
We had a friendly
afterwards, Josh scored his first Hattrick, with all goals being worked by
passing and good movement off the ball, Nicholas also added a fourth with a low
shot from out wide.
