Mid Term Report
As we are now a few weeks into the season I thought it is worthwhile taking the time to reflect on the campaign so far. I think in general things have gone well. I have been really pleased with the boys attitude and commitment at training and especially on match days. The boys are mature beyond their years and they all possess a great willingness to learn and improve their skills. They have all improved much since the summer and have forged new friendships. They are all obviously having fun and I hope this continues throughout their football careers.
Match Days
Thanks to all parents for being punctual for all the games to date. I think when possible, it is good to travel as a team to away games (albeit in convoy). This way we know we have a team and also nobody gets lost (hopefully). All the boys have looked very smart and we have received good comments from other teams. Please double check that your son has shin pads and boots before you leave as we can not allow anyone to play without. Safety is our primary concern here.
FA RESPECT Campaign
The away fixture at Crowland introduced us to the FA Respect campaign. This is where parents and spectators are asked to stand a couple of yards from the touchline and coaches set up at the other side of the pitch. This is to encourage respect for referees. Ironic that this was the game where the referee was given the hardest time from the opposition spectators (sorry about that Dean). Mark and I both thought there were good lessons to be learned nether the less and would like to continue to coach from the opposite touchline to the spectators whenever possible. Please be assured that this not us being unsociable, but rather it allows us to keep the subs close by and allows the players to know where we are and what message we are giving them. As spectators, please continue to encourage the boys BUT refrain from criticism and coaching.

Player of the Day Award
I think the player of the Day award has been working quite well with a few exceptions. All the boys have now won the trophy and this has meant that they have all enjoyed the responsibility of taking the captains armband for the following week. The boys should be aware that this is won on merit and not simply passed around. Good reasons for awarding the trophy can be : goals, saves, tackles, commitment, attitude, working an something that we have asked them too etc.
It is just worth just running over the procedure. If your son won the award the previous week, it is your responsibility to choose the next recipient (so watch the game well). At the end of the second game please come to either Mark or myself and we can also tell you who has done something well that you might not be aware of. You can then let us know your decision so we can get the certificate ready and make the presentation in front of all the boys. Please keep to this procedure as it is important to the boys to be presented in front of their friends. Please also, do your best to remember to bring the trophy back each week as this also leads to disappointment. In future if not trophy is available then we will resist awarding it for that week.
Match Fees
We need to collect fees for the hire of the training pitch. Can we collect £10 this week to cover match subs and training. This then pays training up to 18th December. Thanks

Possible Tour 2009?
We wanted to get your opinions regarding the possibility of taking the boys on a football tour. One such festival I am looking at is held in Blackpool each year. The date of the Under 8 tournament is : 17th and 18th April. Deeping Rangers have taken part in this before and I have also received recommendations from other teams. Benefits of this festival are that it allows for good social time (i.e. visit Blackpool Pleasure Beach) , is well organised and affordable (approx £65 per player, £75 per adult, £60 per non playing child) which includes 2 nights half board in a Blackpool hotel (- I am sure the boys will enjoy it).
One point to consider is that the games are 7 a-side and last 17 minutes each way. I think we would need to take a minimum of 10 players so we would need to invite others.
Again please look at the website and let me know what you think :

Sponsorship
A great big thanks to Abigail who has managed to persuade her company Augean PLC to give us further sponsorship for equipment. I think it would be nice (and useful) for the boys to have Nike under tops and beanie hats for the cold winter months.
