STEVENETTE LEADS THE WAY

Deeping Rangers 12

Nene Valley 0

Deeping Rangers produced their finest performance of the season despite several tactical changes in the starting line up. With Liam Reeve preferred in goal, Mark Grundy slotted into the left back berth and David Stevenette restored to the left wing Rangers went for the Nene Valley  jugular from the kick off. After 10 mins Owen Skinner opened the scoring after a fine pass from Jamie Sharpe. Owen Skinner made it 2-0 after a fine cross from Mitchell Hedley after 14mins. Joe Searson made it 3-0 after latching onto a low cross from in form winger David Stevenette after 28mins. Mark Grundy scored his first goal of the season after a through ball from Luke Parsons to make it 4-0. With Deeping now in full stride, David Stevenette went on a solo run and crossed for Owen Skinner to bag his hat trick. Joe Searson blasted home the sixth Deeping goal with a fine finish. The David Stevenette/Owen Skinner show were at it again after another inch perfect cross was turned in by Owen Skinner to make the score 7-0. In between all the Deeping goals their ‘keeper Liam Reeve was in fine form with some confident handling and direct goal kicks. Joe Searson scored Deeping’s eight goal when he let fly with a fine right-foot shot. Central defenders Thomas Palmer and George Venables were solid at the back and substitute Matthew Bayham provided another gear as Deeping pushed forward. Joe Searson completed his perfect hat trick with the eighth goal after another fine cross from David Stevenette. Mark Grundy not content with his first goal of the season was on the scoresheet again when he stabbed home the ninth Deeping goal. Owen Skinner pounced on a loose ball and in his own trademark style hit a low shot wide of the ‘keeper. Man of the match David Stevenette was able to grab his first and third goal of the sesason just before the moment of the day when defender Ben Aspinall finished off another fast flowing Deeping attack with his first of the season to make the final score 12-0 in favour of Deeping.

Deeping Coach Paul Grundy said “We played football of the highest quality with great tempo right from the kick off. Man of the match, David Stevenette was outstanding today as nobody could stay with him. On this performance, I have several selection headaches as to the right formation for the final game against Hampton. To give credit Nene Valley never lost heart or their shape but on this form we were unstoppable!”

Deeping Rangers 6

Glinton Utd 2

Deeping Rangers collected all three points after a well earned victory with both man of the match Jordan Watson and Owen Skinner grabbing well taken hat-tricks against a spirited Glinton team who even managed to miss a second half penalty. Deeping dominated the first half going ahead early on after Luke Parsons found Owen Skinner to slot home. More chances were created throughout the period and it was left to David Stevenette who fed Jordan Watson whose pace beat the Glinton defence to increase the scoreline. Glinton pulled one back after a defensive blunder in the Deeping defence caused a scramble in the box and the ball was almost cleared off the line before going in off the far post. Owen Skinner then produced a wonderful flick to Jordan Watson who neatly tucked the ball home. Glinton were awarded a penalty which was well converted to make the scoreline 3-2 before, Jordan Watson who was in outstanding form beat a couple of Glinton defenders and smacked the ball home to complete his hat trick. Harriers in cruise gear

Deeping Rangers 1

Gunthorpe Harriers 5

Deeping Rangers collapsed after taking an early lead against league leaders Gunthorpe Harriers in  a must win game for both teams at Outgang Road and in doing so appeared to rule themselves out of the title hunt which is now looks like a two horse race between Woodston Blue and Gunthorpe Harriers. In cold windy conditions, Deeping started with the gale force wind blowing behind them and striker Joe Searson fought hard to control the ball and beat a couple of defenders and shoot wide past the advancing ‘keeper into the goal to give Deeping an early advantage. League leaders Gunthorpe were not out of the game despite the conditions and soon equalised before taking the lead just before half-time with Deeping ‘keeper Mark Grundy pulling off a great save to keep Deeping in the hunt. With the wind behind them and their tails up, Gunthorpe took full advantage and further goals followed to make the scoreline a convincing 5-1 win to the Harriers. Stand-in Deeping Coach Craig Skinner said “we started well but once Gunthorpe equalised, they took full advantage of the terrible conditions. We had to take the game to Gunthorpe in the second half and left ourselves exposed at the back several times. We were out played in the second half and the scoreline although one-sided included some silly soft goals that we conceded due to the windy conditions. On that performance they played like worthy champions and good luck to them for the rest of the season.”

Bourne Town 0

Deeping Rangers 1

Deeping Rangers advanced to the u11s Cup semi-finals after grinding out a hard fought victory over their near neighbours Bourne Town. Just before kick-off Bourne were dealt a real blow when their regular ‘keeper was rushed off to hospital after falling on some glass during the warm-up. Not to be out done Bourne battled throughout the first half and Deeping ‘keeper Mark Grundy was in fine form making several good saves. Deeping sub Luke Parsons provided a perfect cross which Owen Skinner just failed to connect with. Both teams continued to scrap for the ball but it was Deeping who were the most likely to score and they hit the all important goal when David Stevenette fed a ball through to Luke Parsons who found Owen Skinner who coolly slotted the ball home. Despite moving forward towards the final whistle Bourne failed to break down the Deeping defence and Deeping held on to seal their berth in the semi finals. Stand-in Deeping Coach Craig Skinner said “this wasn’t pretty for the spectators but we are through and we have yet to concede a goal in the competition. Keeper Mark Grundy showed his true class today and kept us in the game making some terrific saves.”

Nene Valley 3

Deeping Rangers 6

Deeping Rangers dominated this afternoon duel but had to encounter a spirited Nene Valley team to grab the important three points in their quest for the title. They quickly took control of the game and within minutes Owen Skinner shot narrowly wide. Captain Skinner made amends shortly afterwards after a fine ball through from defender Ben Aspinall, Skinner beat the advancing ‘keeper. Nene Valley levelled with a well taken goal that split the Deeping defence. Deeping came straight back and Owen Skinner restored matters by scoring with a tidy finish. Ben Aspinall provided an inch-perfect cross that found Joe Searson who headed into the top right hand corner. Nene Valley reduced the arrears after a Deeping blunder in defence saw a goal against the run of play. Luke Parsons saw his shot well saved by the Nene Valley ‘keeper with Mitchel Headley on hand netting the fourth goal. Matt Baynham fresh from a sking holiday increased the Deeping lead with a simple goal before Nene Valley who never gave up scored a cracking third goal. Goal of the match was left to Jamie Sharpe who finished off with a great left-footed lob to give Deeping a fine away win. Stand-in Deeping Coach Craig Skinner said “we seemed to lack concentration throughout the match in all departments and were lucky to score six despite leaving our shooting boots at home today. In the end some great goals ensured we stay in the title hunt for a few more games.”

Deeping Rangers 2

This possible title encounter between two of the top three teams had everything apart from a winner although both teams had chances for all three points. In bright sunny conditions, both teams started in a confident manner, but it was Div One leaders Woodston who edged in front with a well taken goal midway through the first half. Not to be out done Deeping battled forward to find the equaliser which was created by Joe Searson who found Jordan Watson who found the back of the net with a delightful lob. Unfortunately Thomas Palmer was forced off after sustaining injury following a tough tackle and with no substitutions available due to hospital and holiday commitments Deeping were forced to shuffle the pack and hold on. Clearly this was not possible and another great Deeping move found striker Joe Searson who found the Woodston ‘keeper off his line with a magnificent chip to make it 2-1. Still, down to ten men, Deeping began to tire as Woodston pressed forward and they scored the important equaliser to make the final score. Deeping 2, Woodston 2. Deeping Coach, Paul Grundy said: my players were all heros outhere today against a strong Woodston outfit. Going down to ten men, most teams would have caved in, but my team showed tremendous spirit to take the game to Woodston and almost snatched a victory.”

Skinner delivers a Christmas Cracker!

Spalding Athletic 3

Deeping Rangers 7

Both Spalding and Deeping served up a Christmas cracker sharing ten goals in an entertaining match, with both teams attacking at every opportunity. Spalding were quickest off the blocks and soon had a couple of early corners that were well defended by the Deeping defence. Jamie Sharpe provided a delightful through ball to Joe Searson who rounded the Spalding ‘keeper to take an early lead. It was Jamie Sharpe again who provided a great corner that found Owen Skinner who flicked a delightful shot into the top of the net to double the lead. Spalding fought back and pulled one back with a direct shot on goal. With their confidence on the up it came as no surprise that Spalding drew level just before half time. Captain, Owen Skinner put Deeping 3-2 ahead with a fantastic shot that crept in just inside the far post. Not to be outdone Spalding pushed forward and ‘keeper Mark Grundy saved a powerful shot before Spalding knocked home the equaliser. Shortly afterwards a Deeping corner was headed home by the impressive David Stevenette to make it 4-3 and Jordan Watson scored a magnificent solo goal to make it 5-3 before Owen Skinner was put through and dribbled past the Spalding’ keeper to make it 6-3 to Deeping to complete his

hat trick. It was left to Jordan Watson to seal a comfortable win for Deeping 7-3 following a well worked free kick by Joe Searson.

Netherton Falcons 0

Deeping Rangers 4

Deeping Rangers completed a professional League Cup 2nd round performance away at Netherton Falcons. Following the water logged pitch at Outgang Road; the game was switched to the Grange. Netherton Falcons the runaway leaders of Division 2 this season started in a confident manner and made some early chances but on 5mins a delightful through ball was found by the advancing Jordan Watson who coolly slotted the ball home. Both teams provided the watching spectators with some great commitment and had chances to score the next important goal. A great move from Deeping involved several players and a neat one two with Joe Searson and Jamie Sharpe found David Stevenette who provided a great first time left foot cross that was just headed wide. Just after half time George Venables playing in midfield took the ball to the right hand side goal line and provided an inch perfect cross for Jamie Sharpe to find the back of the net. David Stevenette, playing at left back was able to pick out the forward run of Mitchel Hedley who lobbed the advancing goalkeeper to make the score 3-0. It was left to striker, Joe Searson to tap home the fourth goal following good work from winger Luke Parsons. Stand-in Coach Craig Skinner said “this was potentially a banana skin tie against a good all round Netherton outfit, going great guns in Division 2. The boys all put in great performances, especially David Stevenette who was solid at left back and super sub Mitchel Hedley who took his goal with great skill. We are all looking forward to the ¼ final draw!”

PARSONS AND DEEPING IN 5 GEARS

Woodston Dynamo Red 2

Deeping Rangers 5

Deeping Rangers made it two consecutive wins in the league following a comprehensive win over Woodston Dynamos Red with three great late goals. Deeping were soon in gear with Luke Parsons in great early form with a strong in swinging corner which found a wicked deflection to make it 1-0 after only 2mins. Another corner by Luke Parsons after 4mins was knocked into the net by in form midfielder Jamie Sharpe. Despite creating further changes Deeping took their foot off the pedal and allowed Woodston to pull one back with a well taken goal that beat the Deeping keeper. Unfortunately, Deeping midfielder Matthew Baynham was forced off injured just before half time which forced a reshuffle in the Deeping team. Woodston started brightly and it came as no surprise when they equalised midway through the second half. However, Deeping left the best to last, after a magnificent pass by Ben Aspinall found Joe Searson who struck the ball well into the top corner of the net. Then a great pass through the defence by Jamie Sharpe, found Joe Searson who slotted the ball home. To complete the match for Deeping was Captain Owen Skinner with fantastic skill on the half volley to rocket the ball home after great play by Luke Parsons. Afterwards, Coach Paul Grundy said “it took us until the second half to open Woodston up and the team responded with some great individual goals. Surely Owen Skinner’s goal has to be a contender for goal of the season!?”

Bourne snatch derby win

Deeping Rangers 1

Bourne Town 2

Both sets of players observed a two minute silence on Remembrance Sunday prior to the kick off but there was not much for Deeping to remember from this local derby encounter. Deeping started with the same line up them narrowly beat Gunthorpe Harriers away 1-0 last weekend with Venables, Aspinall and Demaine on the bench and wore a new change strip of green and white to avoid a colour clash. Both teams cancelled one another out in the early stages and finished the half all square at 0-0. However Bourne were quicker out of the blocks in the second half and grabbed a deserved lead midway through the half with a well taken goal. Unfortunately Deeping gave away a penalty with a deliberate push on a Bourne player which made the score 2-0. The introduction of Venables changed the Deeping playing formation and it was his near side swinging corner that gave a glimmer of hope as minutes ticked by. Despite further pressure and a couple of near misses Deeping were unable to draw level and Bourne were all smiles at the end.

Paul Grundy, Deeping coach said: “this was a disappointing result for the lads after the great win over Gunthorpe last week. The rub of the green didn’t seem to be with us and Bourne appeared to want to win more in a closely fought contest. Although we snatched a late goal back we were unable to grab the equaliser.”

Harriers grounded by a Deeping deflection

GUNTHORPE HARRIERS 0

DEEPING RANGERS 1 (Under 11 Division One)

THEY say all good things must come to an end – and that certainly applies to Gunthorpe Harriers. Andy Roberts' talented young team went down to their first league loss since March 2006 on Sunday morning. A wickedly defected shot from Deeping dynamo Luke Parsons (which actually went into the record books as an own goal) proved the difference between two sides destined to have a major say in the destination of the top-flight silverware. And this is becoming a bit of a habit for the young Rangers who appear to hold the Indian sign over their rivals. They were the only team to inlifct a defeat on Gunthorpe during last season when toppling them in the League Cup – now lightning has struck for a second time courtesy of Parsons' effort .

Gunthorpe boss Roberts said: "To have been unbeaten in the league for 18 months is a fine achievement and something the boys can be rightly proud about. They are obviously disappointed to see their record go, but the way we bounce back is what will prove important. This whole season will be a learning curve for every team in the league, but our boys have adjusted really well to 11-a-side football. As soon as our mini-soccer season finished at Under 10 level we were out playing friendlies against older sides to get us used to the game. The main thing is that the lads enjoy themselves and they certainly seem to be."

Deeping manager Paul Grundy was overjoyed to end Gunthorpe's great run and insisted Parsons should be credited with the decisive goal which elevated his side into a share of top spot alongside their weekend victims and Woodston Blue. He said: "We are delighted with a great result in what was an excellent game. I felt Luke's shot was destined for the opposite corner of the net before taking the deflection, so I think it should go down as his strike rather than an own goal . I thought we shaded it and deserved the three points, but it was a really good spectacle befitting two teams who are going well in the league. A couple of our players moved onto Academy set-ups in the summer which we were thrilled about, and I have been really pleased with the way the new lads have settled into the squad. The league is so competitive that just about every team is capable of beating each other on any given day. Our philosophy is all about playing good football and as long as we manage that every weekend I am happy."

Hampton punish league leaders

Hampton FC 3

Deeping Rangers 0

Beneath clear blue skies and amid glorious autumnal sunshine Deeping struggled to penetrate a tight Hampton defence as they conceded their first defeat so far this season. During a gritty game played at the Hampton FC ground Deeping battled hard and the final score sheet belied the efforts of the current league leaders.

The opening goal went Hampton’s way 10 minutes into the first half, deflecting in off a Rangers defender. Deeping rallied and throughout the remainder of the half play was evenly matched, with neither team dominating.

Hampton’s second goal came half way through the second half. It reflected an unusually disorganised Deeping defence and was neatly struck into the back of the net by a delighted Hampton striker.

For the next 10 minutes Deeping levered themselves back into the game, and worked up some impressive attacking play. In particular, two great attempts on goal came from David Stevenette, each blocked only by the quick reactions of the Hampton keeper, who was an assertive presence throughout the match, and well supported by his team’s determined defenders.

The Hampton players responded with dogged counter attacks, and Deeping keeper Mark Grundy was sturdy with his saves. However, the final goal came just before full time following a defensive breakdown from Deeping. Grundy made a great save

Searson and Sharpe strikes Deeping to Cup glory

Oundle Jumiors 0

Deeping Rangers 12

DEEPING RANGERS dominated from start to finish in this u11 league cup encounter played at Oundle to book their passage through to the next round. In bright Autumn sunshine, Deeping attacked from the kick off with Jamie Sharpe providing a great cross for Mitchel Hedley, who narrowly shot wide. Joe Searson shot a net buster to begin the onslaught and shortly afterwards Mitchel Hedley coming in from the right fired home with a right foot shot to score goal no 2. A fantastic volley from striker Joe Searson made it

3-0 with only 10 minutes gone. The Oundle ‘keeper pulled off a couple of terrific saves to keep the score line respectable from Jamie Sharpe and Mitchel Hedley. Deeping ‘keeper Mark Grundy was only troubled a couple of times in the first half but he handled comfortably. Good build up play by Matthew Baynham resulted in Joe Searson scoring his hat-trick and Owen Skinner provided a perfect delivery for Jamie Sharpe to smash home a great volley into the top hand corner to make the half time score 5-0 to Deeping.

Unfortunately due to injury the Oundle ‘keeper was forced off but following the substitution, Jamie Sharpe fired home a fantastic rocket with a left foot lob over the stranded ‘keeper. David Stevenette, playing wide on the left wing was able to beat two home defenders and send over a quality cross for Jamie Sharpe to knock in. The goal of the match was scored by Jamie Sharpe with a scorcher in the left hand top corner with an awesome shot leaving the ‘keeper helpless. Super sub, Jordan Watson was able to open his account with a ½ volley just in the penalty box after a great turn to create some space.  Jamie Sharpe turned provider with a neat pass to Jordan Watson to make it double figures for Deeping with a delicate left foot pass. Joe Searson scored his fourth with a great strike in front of goal which left Owen Skinner just time to slot home the final goal of the match to make the score 12-0 in favour of Deeping. Stand in Coach, Paul Stevenette said “this was a truly professional job by the boys who were determined to play attractive football and get through to the next round. This result has been coming all season and will give the other teams left in the cup something to think about! We looked strong throughout the team and the scoreline was a fair reflection on the domination by Deeping. We are happy to be in the next round and don’t mind who we face. I am sure the other teams will want to avoid us after this showing”

 Searson strikes super treble

 Woodston Dynamo Blue 1

Deeping Rangers 4

DEEPING RANAGERS continued their winning start to the season with a magnificent victory away at Woodston with striker Joe Searson grabbing his second hat-trick of the season with three high quality individual goals in a fine overall team performance.

After only 3 minutes on the clock, Joe Searson spotted the Woodston ‘keeper off his line and from outside the penalty sent a fantastic chip into the back of the net. Woodston moved forward in search of the equaliser and on a number of occasions found Deeping ‘keeper Mark Grundy in fine form with confident handling and some great saves as Deeping weathered the storm. On 7 minutes a marvellous through ball from Owen Skinner sent Joe Searson through and his strength allowed him to beat off a couple of defenders and despatch the ball neatly into the bottom corner. Deeping send on subs Luke Parsons and Jordan Watson midway through the first half in an effort to control the ball and take the pressure of the Deeping defence. On 29 minutes, Jamie Sharpe found the back of the net with a neat lob which the Woodston ’keeper was unable to get his hands on. Ben Aspinall was forced off with an injury just before half-time which meant a defensive reshuffle with David Stevenette forced to play left back with George Venables switching to right back. In the second half Woodston pulled a goal back before Joe Searson scored from a free kick to complete his hat trick and a convincing win for Deeping. Paul Grundy, Deeping coach said: “this was a great victory and a fantastic team performance. Not many teams will come here and go away with a victory this season. Both Joe Searson who took his goals like a professional and ‘keeper Mark Grundy were outstanding in a terrific team performance.”

DEEPING hit 19 goals in three games

 Deeping Rangers 8

Spalding Athletic 2

DEEPING RANAGERS have now scored 19 goals in their opening three games in the Peterborough Junior Alliance and sit proudly at the top of the table with a maximum of nine points.

In bright windy conditions it was Spalding who began well with some neat passing and after a couple of minutes gone on the clock had a shot that was just a few inches wide of the post. However, Deeping took the lead after a short corner from Luke Parsons found the unmarked George Venables who curled a magnificent shot into the top corner. Not to be out done, Spalding pressed for the equaliser and it wasn’t long coming when a strike from just inside the penalty area found the back of the Deeping net. Following a neat cross from Luke Parsons, the ball found the foot of Matthew Baynham who fed a great ball through to Jamie Sharpe who scored a great goal. Winger David Stevenette provided an inch perfect cross for Luke Parsons to tap in to make the score line 3-1 in favour of ‘Rangers. Matthew Baynham then took his turn to score from a free kick and curled the ball into the net. ‘Rangers could even afford to miss their second penalty in as many weeks as the spot kick went narrowly wide of the near post. Joe Searson continued his scoring habit of at least a goal a game by showing his team mates how to score from the penalty spot with a neat kick into the near corner. Owen Skinner was able to tap in the sixth goal after a great save was made by ‘Rangers keeper Mark Grundy who saved an almost certain goal. Owen Skinner provided Jamie Sharpe with a great pass who was able to run through and coolly slot home a well taken goal. Mitchel Hedley opened his personal goal tally for the season with a great shot on the turn inside the penalty area to comfortably complete the proceedings. Coach Paul Grundy said “this was a good team performance with some great free kicks scored from the lads, however we need to concentrate on spot kicks in training and keeping clean sheets.”

DEEPING turn on the style

Deeping Rangers 5

Woodston Dynamo Red 3

DEEPING RANAGERS continued their winning start to the season after an entertaining match against a strong Woodston Dynamo Red team, but after a convincing first half display they let the peddle off in the second half and were glad to hear the final whistle.

Deeping were soon into their stride and totally dominated the early exchanges and the first goal was blasted in by David Stevenette after only a couple of minutes on the clock after a great through ball found his left foot. Joe Searson was fed through from an inch perfect pass by Owen Skinner to score his first and it was Joe Searson again who was first to the ball and calmly beat the ‘keeper to make the score 3-0. Luke Parsons scored a fine solo goal after a magnificent one two pass with Jamie Sharpe and at half time the score was 4-0 in favour of Deeping. However, Woodston arrived in a different mood for the second half and after Jamie Sharpe missed a penalty by shooting well over the bar and Mitchell Hedley was able to dribble past a couple of defenders to score a great individual goal. The Woodston fight back began then and after scoring three goals, courtesy of some poor defending and clearances from the Deeping defence, the game headed for the final whistle much to the relief of the Deeping team. Through out the match, right back Ben Aspinall stuck to his marker and made some vital clearances and played a confident game and is getting stronger by each match he plays.

Moments after the restart Joe Searson was first to the through ball and rounded the ‘keeper to make it 3-0 to Deeping. Another similar goal soon followed to make a hat trick for Joe Searson before Whittlesey pulled one back to make the score line respectable. Jamie Sharpe added to his total by scoring a well taken goal, following some good approach play by the Deeping team and it was left to Jamie Sharpe to add to his goal tally with his second and Deeping’s 6th goal minutes before the final whistle was blown.
