Netherton Utd  8 – 0  Deeping Rangers Blue

This being the third time during this season we’ve played against Netherton, them having knocked us out of the second round of the League Cup.  We started the match determined to get a result from what we knew would be a very difficult game, given our previous experiences against Netherton, with them being the stronger of the two teams, but we battled with a strong performance, creating chances, but unfortunately were not rewarded for our efforts.  There were some good clearances by our defence as Netherton also came close to scoring from the outset, but we managed to hold them off, giving us the confidence boost we needed.  However, in the end despite our efforts, it was Netherton who broke the deadlock, and broke us down through their excellent moving and passing skills, surging through to give them their first goal.  Up until this point, we had played well, but now having gone down against a team that had already beaten us on the previous two occasions, seemed to unsettle us and we lost our way.  Events went from bad to worse with our goalie, Charlie, having to be replaced following an injury 10 minutes or so into the game.  Within the first 13 minutes, we were losing 3 – 0, but Matt S managed to get a good shot at goal, which were now few and far between from our side, but we were soon brought back down to earth again with an unfortunate incident of hand-ball by one of our players and Netherton were then awarded a penalty, which they were never going to miss.  They were taking all their chances and very few were off target, bringing the half-time score to 5 – 0.

Back on for the second half and a few changes had been made, but with the 5 – 0 scoreline, we were never going to get back into the game, and no words could lift the team’s spirit.  We were out-played on this occasion with 3 more goals to follow, final score 8 – 0.

Coach’s quote:- “We were never really able to find our feet in this game once Netherton scored their first goal, and I think the boys would agree that even though we started the game as strongly as they did, having gone a goal down, this was one of the very few occasions where we allowed our heads to drop and lose focus.  I would rate this match as possibly our most disappointing performance of the current season as a team, being made more apparent by Netherton playing at their very best against us.  The only consolation is that we were beaten by one of the teams most other teams at this age group fail to beat, which is why Netherton find themselves in the League’s U10 Cup Final.”

Deeping Rangers Blue  2 – 0  Parkway Eagles Black

Playing into the wind for the first half, Deeping found conditions tricky to get into their passing game, but did create the better goal scoring opportunities with Dom and Reece going very close.  Parkway had their fair share of the ball without troubling our keeper Charlie too much.  Going into the break, the half-time score stood at 0 – 0.

Deeping made two changes at half-time, with the introduction of Matthew C and Bradley.  7 minutes into the second half, Deeping made the breakthrough with a long shot from Daniel that found the bottom corner bringing the score to 1 – 0.

The second half saw Deeping passing the ball much better, but we did go to sleep on 12 minutes when Charlie had to make a match winning save to preserve Deeping’s lead.  The team battled on and finally got there reward 3 minutes from time when Liam stabbed in a shot from close range, following a scramble in the goal mouth making the final score 2 – 0.

Coaches quote “A tough game today, Parkway pushed us all the way and Charlie made a great save at

1 – 0 which proved to be crucial.  I spoke to the boys at half-time about the importance of keeping a clean sheet for the second half, because I always felt we would score.  That’s 3 wins on the bounce without conceding a goal, Jack, Luke, Matthew C and Charlie can take a lot of credit for this, as they have been defending very well.  We move onto Netherton this Saturday 21st, and we need to be at our best if we are to get anything out of this game as they are having a very good season.”

Deeping Rangers Blue  12 – 0  Wittering Harriers Blue

It was near perfect conditions for football, and Wittering started the game the brightest out of the two teams, with Deeping looking a bit sluggish.  We took the opportunity to change the positioning of a few players.  After 13 minutes, we finally made the breakthrough with Matthew S scoring after receiving a pass from Dom, which gave us added confidence having got the goal-scoring underway.  A minute later, it was 2 – 0, a shot from Matthew S and Dom to knock in the rebound from Matthew’s attempt.

After 18 minutes, Liam scored with a clever flick over the goalie’s head from close range.  Half-time was reached with the score standing at 3 – 0, with Deeping not having played particularly well.

The second half saw some changes in the way of substitutions bringing on Jack and Reece.  21 minutes into the game, Reece scored with his first touch after good play from Dom and Liam, making it 4 – 0.  A third substitution brought on Luke at 26 minutes, 2 minutes later, a quick throw-in by Luke sends Daniel on his way to score, making it 5 – 0.  At 30 minutes, it’s 6 – 0 following a cross from Luke for Reece to knock in on his second attempt after first hitting the post.

31 minutes saw the score brought to 7 – 0 after Liam capitalised on their keeper’s mistake when he dropped the ball attempting a dropkick.  Within minutes, Reece scored from a half volley to give him his hat-trick, and put the score at 8 – 0.  Minutes later, Daniel put the ball in the back of the net from a 20 yard screamer, 9 – 0.

A few minutes to the final whistle and the boys’ determination paid off to add to the tally of goals, with Reece scoring his 4th after good work from Daniel, the score 10 – 0.

Daniel also then completed his hat-trick bringing the score-line to 11 – 0 after a pass from Reece, and with Liam becoming the 3rd player to get a hat-trick after receiving the ball from a throw-in from Luke, the final score stood at 12 – 0.

Coach’s quote “We had to be patient as Wittering started a lot brighter than us.  We also changed it around a bit today, and because of this, were a bit slow out of the blocks, but once we got that first goal, there was no stopping us.  It’s always nice to score lots of goals, but one of the most pleasing things is to keep a clean sheet again, especially with Bradley and Matthew C playing in defence for their 1st and 2nd time respectively.”

Oundle  0 – 7  Deeping Rangers Blue

Playing conditions were perfect for our fixture at Oundle, although we found ourselves playing on a very small pitch, which made passing very difficult as there was little space.  Deeping got off to a flying start, with Daniel scoring after 2 minutes, direct from a free kick.  Jack made it 2 – 0 after 8 minutes with a left-foot shot from outside of the box.  Matthew S increased our score to 3 – 0 after 15 minutes, following a good pass from Dom.  A throw-in from Luke sent Dom on his way, turning and taking a shot which found the top corner to bring our score-line to 4 – 0 going into the half-time break.

Back on for the second half, Oundle had more belief in themselves, committing more players forward and creating some chances, but our goalie, Bradley was in fine form denying Oundle any chance of scoring with some fine saves.  Daniel’s first attempt of the half was saved, but after 30 minutes, Matthew C found the net making it 5 – 0 after Matthew S’ original shot was saved but pushed back out by their keeper.  Daniel made it 6 – 0 scoring his second of the match, with a shot from distance on 35 minutes.  Dom then scored his second of the game tapping in Liam’s goal bound effort, and bringing the score to 7 – 0 at the final whistle.

Coach’s quote “Good to keep a clean sheet and get some goals as we haven’t scored for couple of games.  The score-line probably flattered us today, as we didn’t play as well as we can, or as well as we did against Sawtry away where we lost, but all in all very happy with the result.”

Sawtry Blue  3 – 0  Deeping Rangers Blue

Today’s match saw the longest trip of the season to Great Gidding to play Sawtry on a sunny day if a little breezy.  Playing up-hill for the first half into the wind, Sawtry got off to a good start, playing good football but not threatening our goal too much, and our lads hitting them on the break, through good work by Daniel, Liam and Matthew S, Matt’s chance being saved by their quick-thinking goalie.  Sawtry had lots of possession without testing Charlie our keeper too much, mainly due to the solid defensive unit of Luke B and Jack, keeping tight their tackles and returning the ball back into our midfield.  Deeping held firm to half time with the score at 0 – 0.

For the second half, a couple of changes were made with the introduction of Dom and Matthew C, to freshen up the team as the lads had put so much effort into the first half.  Sawtry set off the second half very well, passing and moving the ball around to create a couple of openings, but we stood firm with Charlie making some good saves, but as the half wore on Sawtry were finding more and more space, before breaking the deadlock 5 minutes into the second half making the score 1 – 0 to them.  Sawtry’s tails were up now and could sense more goals were there for the taking, finding a lot more space than they were in first half.  Two minutes later the score was taken to 2 – 0 to Sawtry.  Following a foul with Daniel being brought down, we found ourselves with a free kick just outside the area which Daniel shot just over the crossbar.  The ball back in play with action from Sawtry at the other end, their shot being cleared off the line by Luke B.  Five minutes from time, Sawtry made it 3 – 0 and it was game over for Deeping.

“Another very good performance from the boys, we are not far off getting results from teams like Sawtry and Malbourne.  The only difference is that we were not taking our chances when the score was level in both games.  We had chances and if we could have scored, then we’d probably go on to get a result.  We are probably creating the same amount of chances as these teams but at the moment, they are not going in.  But fair play to Sawtry; they are a very good side, and hopefully it won’t be too long before we are beating the likes of such teams.”

Man of the Match : very difficult to single out a particular player to name as individual Man of the Match this week, it was very much a team effort.

Deeping Rangers Blue  0 – 5  Malbourne Lions

The weather got the better of our home pitch following all the rain we had this week, so we took the opportunity to play our home fixture at Malbourne Lions ground, which was either brave or stupidity considering we lost 9 – 0 there early in the season.  They are arguably the best team around at our age group, averaging over 9 goals a game up to this point in time.  They have 4 players who were approached by Notts Forrest to join their academy at the beginning of the season, but declined unfortunately for us, as they would rather play with their mates.

We were playing on a big pitch that was very bobbley as it had been spiked the day before but was surprisingly firm considering all the recent rain.  Malbourne Lions kicked the game off.  We had a change in formation and tactics, trying to frustrate the opposition by defending in numbers and trying to catch them on the counter attack, which almost paid dividend for us.

Lions had a lot of possession of the ball early in the game in the middle of the field, but couldn’t find a way through our back line as our defence and midfield were stifling their play brilliantly, and when we won the ball, it was being played up to Matt S quickly, who used his pace on a number of occasions to stretch their rear guard.  Lions’ early attempts on goal were unsuccessful thanks to good defending and a save sent up and over the crossbar by our goalie.  At the other end, we had attempts that were on target but saved by the outstretched arms and quick reactions from the Lions’ goalie.

10 minutes into the game, Lions managed to break through our stubborn defence resulting in a scrappy goal giving them a 1 – 0 lead.  This was disappointing as they were creating very little due to the hard work our lads were putting in.   The next 7-8 minutes were our best spell of the game, as we were hitting them on the break more and more frequently as our midfield were breaking up there play, and our best chance came when we were awarded a free kick outside of the box; Daniel smashed it, and their goalie produced a fine save to push it over the crossbar.  In this period we had 3 corners, which Daniel delivered superbly, but unfortunately we not able to get on the end of them.  Deeping battled continuously from one end to the other.

Just before the half time break, Lions went 2 – 0 up, when a hopeful low cross was turned in for an own goal by the out-stretched foot of the unlucky Jack, who had been immense at the back, not missing a tackle all game.  This goal seemed to deflate us as the boys had put so much effort into containing a very good side, and making them look almost beatable.

During the half time coach’s pep talk, the players were instructed the next goal’s crucial, because if we get it, we are back in the game.

Back on for the second half, and 23 minutes into the game, we didn’t clear our lines or stay tight enough to their forwards, giving them the opportunity for a scrappy goal, probably due to tired legs, as we’ve not played or trained much for the last 6 weeks.  A couple of changes were made to freshen up our team, but unfortunately to no avail as the Lions went on to score 2 more goals, to make the final score 5 – 0 to Malbourne Lions.  The effort, determination and performance Deeping put into the game was by no means reflected by the final score.

Coaches quote:- “Each and every one of the boys were superb today; I could ask no more from them as they all gave 100%.  We pushed (Lions) all the way today and the 5 – 0 score line was probably a bit harsh on the boys as they found it very difficult to break us down.  They only had about 5 efforts on goal, unfortunately all going in.  We must remember they are reigning champions, and will probably go on to win the league and cup, and are a team we all aspire to be like.  That’s the end of the good little run we were on, picking up 15 points in 7 games, only losing twice.  It’s important we return to our winning ways quickly, as we have got a tricky game away at Sawtry next week.”

Deeping Rangers Blue  7 – 0  Glinton United White

Back on our home turf for the first match of the new year, Deeping were hoping to continue on from where they left off before the Christmas break with great performances, resulting in our winning streak!

For the first 10 minutes of the game, both sides put in strong performances and it was end to end action.  Deeping showed excellent passing skills and held their formation well.  Half way through the first half, Reece found the opportunity to give Deeping a 2 – 0 lead, with 2 goals within a matter of minutes, following great set ups from Matt S, and with our confidence from taking the lead, the team were really on top form.  Great defensive work by Luke B and Luke M denied Glinton any chance on target they may have had, with the ball quickly being fed back to our midfielders, Daniel and Liam.  Daniel just missed the target following a brilliant shot from outside the area, and after a great manoeuvre, Matt S gave Deeping their 3rd goal.  Liam then scored our 4th following great teamwork in midfield, to find space in Glinton’s defence.  Matt S closed the first half with his 2nd goal.  The ball was being passed superbly showing great teamwork, and going into the break, the score was a well-deserved 5 – 0 to Deeping.

Back onto the pitch for the second half, following a few changes to the team, Deeping were set to add to their score.  Liam’s first shot in this half saw an excellent save from Glinton’s goalie sending his attempt over the crossbar to deny Deeping a 6th.  Bradley also shot just wide of the goal.  However, Deeping were still determined to increase their score, and this came courtesy of second half substitute, Matt C, who found the net twice in succession to end the game 7 – 0 to Deeping.

Another fantastic win and an outstanding performance from Deeping.  Let’s hope we can continue our winning form.

Parkside Athletic  2 – 4  Deeping Rangers

Having previously lost against Parkside, the boys arrived in high spirits. A brisk warm up was the order of the day as conditions were freezing!!!

I for one wanted to join in just to keep warm!

The game kicked off and saw a very early goal from Parkside having managed to slip through our defence on what seemed to be a short pitch!

The boys adjusted their play and were passing well. Jack and Luke M were playing well along with Liam, Dan & Reece in midfield, the boys were calling for the ball and working well to keep Parkside on their toes. A second goal was to come in the form of a penalty against Deeping for a handball.

A quick substitution saw Luke B come on the pitch to work alongside Reece. A few attempts at goal from Luke, Dan & Liam were unable to locate the back of the net but encouraged the boys to find the weak holes in the Parkside defence finally resulting in Luke B managing a goal for Deeping. The half time score was 2 -1 to Parkside.

The second half saw a surge from the boys and a determination to pull the game back. The leveller was a terrific goal from Jack from beyond the half way mark, kicking the ball over the goalkeepers head that saw him performing what could only be described as a ballet move!!  Charlie was to join the boys in Goal replacing Bradley who had played a sterling game but had got cold. Liam, Dan & Reece continued to play to their strengths with many goal attempts, the score at this point should have been far greater. Another substitution saw Dom back on the pitch and within a few minutes was to find goal, following numerous touches by the boys, to get the ball in the net. With a win only minutes away the boys continued to push forward with a new vengeance, determined to end the game on a high. Liam was to get the final well deserved and awaited goal. The final score was 4-2 Deeping.

This win left the boys on a high with a renewed confidence for our next match.

Wittering Blue  0 – 10  Deeping Rangers Blue

It was a journey along the A1 to a slightly frosty and foggy Wittering.  The whistle signalled the start of the match, and Deeping broke away immediately from kick-off with Dom finding the back of the net within the first couple of minutes giving him goal no. 1.  The ball quickly back at the centre circle, again Deeping found themselves taking control of the game; this time, our defender Jack taking his chances finding himself high enough up the pitch for a shot on goal, which was right on target, to score goal no. 2 within the first 5 minutes or so.  Our 3rd goal came from Matt S after solid passing through our midfielders to find Matt in the perfect position.  Minutes later, goal no. 4 came courtesy of Dom giving him his second of the match.  Up to this point, Wittering hadn’t managed to break us down and had very little play in their half of the pitch, giving our goalie, Charlie an extremely quiet game.  Wittering continued with their determination, but only managed to reach our half on the odd occasion.  The whistle blasted for the end of the first half, with Deeping 4 – 0 up.

With a few changes made during the break, and Deeping holding a respectable lead going into the second half, it was only a short time before the ball was volleyed into the back of the net, this time by Luke B, following a brilliant cross resulting in goal no. 5.  Deeping were taking advantage of every opportunity to find the net, and also missed some opportunities to increase their mammoth score, often picking up a loose ball from Wittering’s goal kicks.  Second half substitute Reece made a big impact on the game, netting 4 goals and taking our tally to 9.  With a few minutes remaining, Matt S managed to squeeze in one more goal before the final whistle, after further good work from Reece, giving Deeping a 10 – 0 win.

Deeping under 10 Blues 5 - 1 Oundle

The day was extremely cold with freezing temperatures but the boys warmed up well and were looking forward to playing the game and winning against a team that had previously beaten us.

The boys started strong and pushed forward but the first attempt at goal came from Oundle but was saved by Bradley who was starting in goal.

There was some good communication from the boys and they were working well as a team but a lapse in concentration saw Oundle pass through a scrappy defence to go 1-0 ahead. The boys held their form and found there way through a tight Oundle defence to enable Matt S to put the equalizer in goal. The half time score was 1 -1.

The second half saw the boys really working well and fighting to keep the score equal. A near miss by Oundle cleared by Dom & Bradley saw the boys start o work hard to push forward. With some good passing and light footwork Deeping was to go 2-1 up with another goal from Matt S. Followed by another goal fired in by Dan. Deeping was now leading 3-1.  With a new vigour and some fresh legs in the form of Luke M & Matt C the boys were in fighting spirit. Two more attempts from Deeping at goal, that could and would not go in, kept the Deeping supporters on their toes (Or were they just jumping up and down to keep warm !!!) Patience paid off and Matt S was to get his hat trick of the day. Dan then quickly followed suit with his second goal to end the game at a 5-1 and a well deserved and needed win for the lads.

Kev’s Quote: A very important victory for us today that we need to build on to move up the table.  The first half, we were poor and hesitant in defence, possibly due to the freezing wind.  In the second half, the team showed a great improvement and passed the ball better, creating more space, which led to our goals.  We could have won by more if we’d took all our chances, with further shots hitting the woodwork or going wide.  All in all, very happy with the win as Oundle got the double on us last season.

Saturday 15 November 2008 - League Cup - 2nd Round

Netherton Utd  5 – 0  Deeping Rangers Blue

Deeping started this match brightly, putting Netherton under pressure without creating too much.  Netherton’s 1st venture into our half resulted in their 1st goal which was scored against the run of play through a deflected shot that wasn’t on target, giving them the early lead.  Their 2nd goal came from a break after we lost possession in their half.  They put a long ball up to their man on the edge of the area which we failed to pick up who turned and slotted the ball home.  At the break, we were 2 - 0 down.

Back on for the second half, we never really got going and soon found ourselves further behind.  Netherton’s 3rd was a quality goal after we failed to close down quick enough; the shot cannoned off the crossbar from outside the box, and found the back of the net.  Goal no. 4 was fortunate, being a hoofed clearance from defence that bounced over our goalie’s head.  Their 5th goal came from a cross which was then knocked in first time.

Kevin’s Quote:- The first half, we played very well but found ourselves 2 – 0 down at half-time and Netherton not really causing us too many problems up to that point.  Second half against the wind, we never really got back into the game.   With us being 3 – 0 down in a cup game, we had nothing to lose by putting players forward and they caught us on the counter-attack, but it proved too much to come back.

Riverside Rovers Red  3 – 1  Deeping Rangers Blue

Both teams got off to a good start and it was end to end action, but it wasn’t long before Riverside Rovers got the upper hand with their 1st goal coming from a deflection off one of our own players, to give them a 1 – 0 lead, and goal no. 2 soon followed, after we missed some chances to draw level.

Riverside Rovers 3rd goal was yet another case of an unlucky deflection from one of our players as a result of overcrowding in the box.  By this time we’d lost confidence, and with the score at half-time remaining at 3 – 0 to Riverside Rovers, we had to regain our momentum after the break.

Back on the pitch with a renewed confidence after the Manager’s half-time boost, we held the game at 3 – 0 for the majority of play.  We battled on and our efforts were rewarded, after a great pass from Daniel Cushen to Matt Strenge, who dribbled past the last defender and riffled his shot past the helpless goalie to find the back of the net.  The match ended at 3 – 1, which was a pleasing result for us bearing in the mind we were playing the league leaders, and the score did not really reflect our overall performance, particularly during the second half!

Kevin’s quote:-

“We were short on players this week but despite this, the boys put in a cracking performance against the league leaders.  We're improving with every game and getting tougher to beat.  We scored a quality goal by Matt Strenge after some good work by Daniel Cushen.  We missed some chances at 1 - 0, and this proved to be crucial.”

Deeping Rangers Blue  12 – 0  Bourne Town Orange

The whistle signalled the start of the match, and Deeping broke away quickly from kick-off with Luke B finding the back of the net within the first couple of minutes giving him goal no. 1.  With the ball back at the centre circle, a determined Deeping broke again, barely allowing Bourne a touch on the ball and a chance to find our half, giving Liam the opportunity for his first goal and Deeping’s 2nd.  Matt S supplied goal no. 3, and following some great passing between the team as a whole, Liam found the net again to make it 4 – 0 in our favour within the first 10 minutes.

Bourne didn’t give up and tried to gain the ball, but Deeping were on top of the game, and dominated play.  Matt S shot on target, but he was denied by Bourne’s goalie.  Deeping’s 5th was courtesy of a Bourne own goal.

Bourne put the ball out of play to give us a corner.  Daniel took this with precision finding Liam in the box, and enabling him to put in goal no. 6.  Luke B crossed the ball superbly to Matt S in the box, but he didn’t quite make the shot on goal, for what could possibly have been our 7th.  Fraser made a great run through for a shot on goal, but this was intercepted by Bourne’s goalie.  Again, a great strike by Matt S was saved by Bourne’s busy goalie.  Bourne were constantly under pressure, and our 7th goal came via a brilliant header by Matt S from Liam’s accurate crossing.  After a loose ball in the box following some miss-kicks, and a couple of attempts hitting the side posts, Matt S made sure this time, giving him his hat-trick and our 8th goal.  Luke B was almost there with goal no. 9, but his shot was just over the top post, and after the first half had seen excellent passing and good crosses throughout, the half-time score stood at 8 – 0 to Deeping.

Back onto the pitch for the second half, and a few changes had been made to the team.  Luke B again attempted to get the second half scoring underway as his shot went just wide of the post, but not giving up, Luke again found the net minutes into the second half to give him his second of the match and the team’s 9th.  Reece also had a couple of shots that went just wide keeping the score at 9 – 0.  Luke B then tried his luck at a shot from 20 yards or so out, which was on target but within the goalie’s reach to deny him his hat-trick of the morning.

Further goals were to come from Liam, giving us goal no. 10, quickly followed by Daniel also now on the scoring sheet for our 11th.  Liam was determined to get one more in the net on the day before the final whistle, bringing his personal tally to 5 and giving us a mammoth 12 goals to celebrate, confirming a 12 – 0 victory, and our greatest triumph to date!  Hats off to Bourne for still smiling and their determination not to give up, but we walked away with a growing confidence for next week’s fixture, in the hope we can continue with the excellent passing and shooting we showed during today’s game.

Deeping Under10’ Blues 2 - 5  V Sawtry Colts

The boys had a strong start to the game against Sawtry, pushing forward and putting them under pressure.  Sawtry came back with attempts at goal but Charlie put in some great saves. The defence maintained the pressure and our boys pushed forward for there own attempt at goal but missed. However, Deeping was soon to go up 1-0 with a goal from Dom, helped created by Luke & Liam. Within minutes Sawtry were to match the goal following a corner. A lapse of focus saw Sawtry pass our defence to go 2-1 up leading to half time.

The second half again was evenly matched with goal attempts galore with Sawtry managing to find the net but luck was not on Deeping’s side!!

Great play by Dan & Matt saw Matt take a goal to draw level. This saw a burst from Sawtry who found away through our defence to go ahead once again. Deeping kept their heads up, shouting to each other to continue the battle with Charlie again making some cracking saves. Jack was solid in defence keeping Sawtry under pressure. There was some great play and ball control from Dan, Liam, Luke & Bradley and attempts at goal were numerous. Sawtry were able to score a further 3 goals to end the game 5-2.

Deeping found that they were evenly matched with a team that they had met in the past, the feeling was that they may struggle throughout the game but they played really well. Luck today was just not on their side. Deeping certainly had more attempts at goal and it was said that is was just not our day.

The boys are growing stronger with every match. Watching the lads their fitness is improving and they are communicating well. There was some terrific play today and although the score was 5-2, Deeping certainly should have got far more from the game.

Kevin’s Quote: "A cracking game of football from both sides.  We just lost our concentration towards the end of the match, and paid the price after a battling performance up to that point.  The result didn't reflect how close this game was, and we deserved something more than a 5 - 2 defeat based on our performance."

League Cup Game -  Deepings Under10’s Blue 2 – 0 Yaxley

The boys were looking forward to putting in a good performance for the first cup game of the season and following last weeks performance were determined to come away with a win under their belts.

The first half saw the boys working really hard and playing well. Charlie made some excellent saves but it was Dominic for Deepings who scored the first goal to go one nil ahead. Working well, passing well and keeping there heads saw the half time score still in Deepings favour at 1-0.

The second half saw Charlie making some more great saves, keeping Yaxley at bay. Liam and Dan maintained the pace up upfront with some free kicks that kept Yaxley on their toes. Luke B was next to find the net putting Deepings two nil ahead. Deepings maintained their position to see Dan attempt a third goal that hit the goalpost.  The boys played a great game and can now look forward to taking this win forward to next week.

Kevin’s Quote: "The boys showed great character to bounce back after our heavy defeat last week, and put on a brilliant performance, showing they are really coming together as a team.  The match was exciting from the start, when only minutes into the game we had our first goal disallowed.  We could have won by a lot more had we taken our chances.  The only time we felt Yaxley a threat was from their corners.  At the final whistle, the result was a well-deserved 2 - 0 win for us.  Well done to all the boys - make sure we keep up the good performance."

Malbourne Lions  9 – 0  Deeping Rangers Blue

Our most disappointing result to date.  There is no doubt that Malbourne Lions out-played our team, and passed the ball really well, but the amount of goals they scored should not have reached 9.  The majority of their goals came from way outside the box, and flew into the top corner of the goal with force and precision, beyond the reach of our goalie.  At the other end, we only really created the odd one or two chances, which unfortunately did not find the net to even give us a slight comeback, and the excuse for a brief celebration!

Not too much else to say about this match, apart from we must now put it behind us as not one of the most memorable games, and look forward to hopefully getting our own back when we play them on our home turf!

With the 1st round of the cup drawing nearer, we need to put all our concentration and efforts towards our future fixtures, and get back to playing as we did against Glinton.

Netherton  4 – 1 Deeping Under 10’s Blues

The Team were delighted to receive their new waterproof training jackets kindly sponsored by The Deeping Lions. Representatives from the Lions, Tom, Nigel, Roy & Guy were there to present the jackets and photographs were taken that will be appearing in the Local Press.

We cannot say ‘Thank You’ enough and hope that the teams will represent them well with some good wins to make them proud!

After last weeks nail biting match, expectations were high for the game against Netherton. The boys were in positive spirits and the game started at an even pace. Netherton were quick to try at goal and Charlie made some good saves but they were soon to go 1 up. Deeping battled on with some near misses but Netherton came back at us to go 2 – nil ahead.

With some good passing and steady footwork amongst the boys, Luke B was able to find the goal and pulled one back to 2-1. With new vigour the boys up’d the pace to try and level the game but Netherton had several attempts at goal which saw them score once again. Not beaten, the lads continued in there fight to try and win another goal but after an attempt that hit the post it was not to be and Netherton came back to see the final score end at 4-1.

Kevin’s Quote: “We deserved more out of the game for the battling performance we gave. We were up against a very good side today and pushed them all the way. Each and every one of our players can be proud of their performance. They worked very hard and never let there heads drop. We pulled a goal back just after half time to get back into the game making it 2-1 but missing some chances at this stage of the game proved to be crucial, after they hit back with 2 late goals that killed the game off”

Glinton United  2 – 3 Deeping Rangers U10’s Blues

What a fantastic match!!! The Deepings Supporters were kept on the edge, such an exciting and nail biting game; it was thrilling to watch and made us all very proud!!

The boys were up and ready for the match against Glinton and showed determination in the first half, dominating the game. They started to pull together, working well as a team and passing well, making spaces and listening to each other. Glinton scored to go 1-nil ahead but the boys kept their heads up and continued their battle and saw Dominic score the 1st league goal of the season for the team. The half time score was 1-1.

The second half saw Deeping pushing forward with some good passes being made. A free kick saw Dan fire the ball into the right-hand corner of the net for what could only be described as a superb goal. The opposition came back with two attempts at goal with Charlie making some great saves. A lapse in concentration saw Glinton pull one back to bring the score level. Deeping however continued there battle, determination showing on all the faces of the players. The third goal for Deeping came when Dan kicked the ball at goal which skimmed over the head of the Glinton goalkeeper.  When the final whistle blew with score at 3-2 Deeping, the Deepings Supporters went wild along with the boys who thoroughly deserved the win!!.

A quote heard amongst the crowd was “There’s no much wrong with boys football with matches played like that”

Kevin’s Quote: “Best performance of the season by far against a very good Glinton side. The lads upped their game considerably and passed the ball superbly. We created lots of chances and had numerous shots on target, once our first goal went in, it boosted the team’s confidence and there was no stopping us!!”

Deeping Rangers Blue  0 – 5  Parkside Athletic

A disappointing result for our first home game; should have done much better.  First half, we played well, producing some good passing movement between the players, created chances, but just couldn’t find the net.  Hit the side netting and went wide of the goal a good few times.

Although 1 – 0 down during most of the first half, we were still well in the game and the boys showed lots of determination.  Parkside Athletic’s second goal came when they were awarded a free kick just outside the area, which they made the most of with a good strike finding the net.  At the half-time whistle, score stood at 2 – 0.

The second half, we conceded a couple of early goals, and the commitment shown in the first half disappeared, heads dropped, allowing a fifth goal in the net.

Heads back up for next Saturday!!

Parkway Eagles  1 – 0 Deeping Rangers U10’s Blues

It was the start of the season for the Under 10’s blue team and included in the line up was Dom, Charlie, Luke B, Luke, Bradley, Matt, Daniel, Jack, Reece, Fraser & Matt and fortunately the weather was kind to us with just the odd shower throughout the match.

The first half saw the team finding their feet and voices following the summer break but proved to be an evenly charged game. After a few substitutions and near misses from both sides, the score at half time was nil-nil. The second half saw a surge from the boys and they up’d their game, becoming more focused and charged.  A lapse in concentration saw a second half goal for the opposition but the boys kept their heads up till the final whistle.

Kevin’s Quote: “All the lads did really well; game could have gone either way. Parkway put us under a bit of pressure in the first half. Charlie made some good save to keep goalless at half time. Second half we were the better team but couldn’t find the net”
